Highway Maintenance Specialist, Night Crew - Denver Metro (CDL Required)

Job Overview Highway Maintenance Specialist – Golden, CO. Applications are considered from residents and non‑residents of Colorado. A Colorado Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License is required. Total annual compensation is $65,400 (base pay $53,400 plus $12,000 housing stipend). Base pay is $2,053.85 biweekly ($53,400 annually). Additional monthly housing stipend is $1,000. Overtime rate is $38.50 per hour. Anticipated schedule: Monday – Thursday, 8:00 PM – 6:00 AM. Responsibilities Plow snow and maintain and operate heavy equipment such as tandem dump trucks, loaders, tractor mowers, and other tools. Mow and trim grass and weeds, and remove debris from roadways, culverts, and tunnels. Shovel gravel, sand, concrete, and asphalt and excavate ditches. Install and repair guardrails, markers, signs, warning signs, lighting, and pavement markings. Fill potholes and repair roadway cracks. Set out signs and cones for traffic control, and remove and cover graffiti. Stop or slow traffic in emergency situations. Maintain equipment and perform minor repairs. Follow safety guidance and wear proper safety equipment. Work on-call on a rotating basis and respond to weather or emergency calls. Operate within a team environment with a lead specialist and other specialists. Work Environment Exposure to loud noise, fumes, odors, gases, dust, and chemicals. Work near, or on, high‑speed traffic and at elevations up to 12,000 feet. Use of ladders and scissor lifts for heights of 10–20 feet. Required to wear personal protective equipment. May be required to work beyond regular hours, including weekends and holidays. Possibility of working in extreme temperatures and variable weather conditions. Compensation and Schedule Biweekly pay of $2,053.85 (annual base $53,400). Additional monthly housing stipend of $1,000. Weekly schedule of 10‑hour days, Monday‑Thursday. Opportunities to learn new equipment and advance. Minimum Qualifications At least two (2) years of physical labor and/or heavy equipment operation experience. Valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B with no restriction on air brakes. Pass background check, drug test, DOT physical, and other required screenings. Willingness to perform on‑call work and respond to emergencies. Preferred Qualifications Strong commitment to safety. Desire to learn and work outdoors. Enjoys physically demanding work and takes pride in job well done. Adapts quickly to changing conditions and priorities. Works well in a team and looks out for team members. Effective communication, especially in safety‑critical situations. Commitment to customer service. Problem‑solving skills. Experience operating equipment such as dump trucks, loaders, bulldozers, and backhoes. Experience with hand tools. Basic computer skills and willingness to learn new software/equipment. State service experience related to duties of the position. Conditions of Employment Transfer or obtain a Colorado CDL within 30 days if moving from out of state. May be required to obtain a Hazardous Materials endorsement within 6 months to 1 year. Must provide a telephone number for emergencies. May be required to live within 30 minutes driving time to respond promptly. New employees complete two weeks of training; veterans one week each year. On‑call and shift work required.
