Accounting Manager

Position Summary

 

The Accounting Manager will be a key member of the Controllership organization and will lead the day-to-day execution of Unusual Machines' accounting operations. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, this role is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, managing the monthly and quarterly close, reviewing accounting work, developing the accounting team, and strengthening scalable accounting processes and controls as the Company grows.

 

This is a hands-on leadership role in a rapidly growing public-company manufacturing environment. The Accounting Manager will work closely with Cost Accounting, Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, Purchasing, HR, IT, and other functions to ensure business activity is accurately reflected in the financial statements.

 

What You'll Do

 

• Lead day-to-day accounting operations and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the general ledger and financial reporting.
• Review journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, roll-forwards, and supporting schedules; ensure reconciling items and accounting exceptions are resolved timely.
• Oversee accounting for cash, AP, AR, prepaids, fixed assets, leases, payroll-related accounts, intercompany activity, and other assigned accounts.
• Review financial results and balance-sheet activity to identify unusual trends, errors, and emerging accounting issues.

• Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team, establishing clear responsibilities, deadlines, review standards, and accountability.
• Build appropriate cross-training and backup coverage while developing a scalable accounting organization that can support continued growth and acquisitions.

• Provide accounting oversight of inventory and manufacturing processes while partnering with the Cost Accountant on product costing, landed cost, COGS, manufacturing variances, and inventory reserves.
• Review inventory-to-GL reconciliations, E&O analyses, inventory adjustments, cycle counts, and physical inventory results.
• Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, Purchasing, and Engineering to investigate inventory and manufacturing accounting issues and ensure operational activity is appropriately reflected in financial results.

• Establish and continuously improve accounting policies, close procedures, reconciliations, SOPs, and review controls to maintain an audit-ready accounting environment.
• Partner with the Director of SOX & Internal Controls on financial controls, walkthroughs, remediation, and SOX-readiness activities.
• Support quarterly and annual financial reporting, including schedules supporting Forms 10-Q and 10-K and other SEC reporting requirements.
• Coordinate accounting team responses to external audit and quarterly-review requests, ensuring accurate and timely PBC deliverables.

• Lead continuous improvement of NetSuite and related accounting workflows, including data integrity, reporting, controls, integrations, and automation.
• Identify manual and recurring processes that can be standardized, automated, or eliminated to improve close speed, accuracy, and scalability.
• Drive accurate accounting at the source through improved transaction coding, documentation, approvals, and system workflows.

• Support integration of acquired businesses, including accounting-process alignment, chart-of-accounts mapping, reconciliations, close procedures, and systems integration.
• Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, Purchasing, Engineering, HR, and IT to resolve accounting issues at their operational or system source and support other initiatives as the Company grows.

 

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 6–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful responsibility for month-end close, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• 2+ years of supervisory, management, or significant team-lead experience strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial statement preparation.
• Manufacturing, aerospace, defense, electronics, hardware, distribution, or other inventory-intensive industry experience strongly preferred.
• Solid understanding of inventory accounting, COGS, raw materials, WIP, finished goods, inventory reserves, and manufacturing cost flows.
• Working knowledge of standard costing, BOMs, labor and overhead allocation, landed cost, and manufacturing variances.
• Strong ERP experience; hands-on NetSuite experience strongly preferred.
• Experience managing or materially improving a monthly close process.
• Experience developing accounting policies, procedures, reconciliations, SOPs, and internal controls.
• Experience supporting external audits and working directly with auditors.
• Strong Excel, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively with both Finance and operational teams.
• Comfortable operating in a fast-growing environment where systems, processes, and organizational structures continue to evolve.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA or active CPA candidate strongly preferred; CMA also valued.
• Public accounting and/or public-company accounting experience.
• Experience with SEC reporting, SOX, and quarterly/year-end external audits.
• Experience in a high-growth or acquisitive manufacturing environment.
• Experience implementing or optimizing NetSuite or another manufacturing ERP.
• Multi-entity and acquisition-integration experience.

 

What Will Make You Successful

 

You are a hands-on accounting leader who can operate between the general ledger and the underlying business processes. You understand that an accurate and timely close begins with accurate transactions, strong reconciliations, clear ownership, and disciplined processes.

You can get into the details when necessary while building a team that does not depend on you to perform every task. You investigate the root cause of accounting issues rather than repeatedly correcting them through month-end journal entries.

You develop people, establish accountability, improve systems and processes, and build a structure where it does not yet exist. You are comfortable working across Finance and Operations and can translate operational activity into its financial-statement impact.

Success in this role means helping UMAC build an accounting organization characterized by accuracy, accountability, strong controls, predictable close, and scalable processes.

Compensation - $105,000 - $125,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications, plus equity participation and benefits in accordance with the Company's compensation programs
