Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a large urban hospital License: Current RN license required Certifications: BLS required; ACLS and CPI preferred Must-Have: Must have experience with drips. Epic charting experience required. Comfortable caring for behavioral health patients. Description: This role requires a registered nurse to work in a medical surgical/telemetry setting. You will care for patients with a variety of medical and surgical conditions. Patient care may include total knee and hip replacements, complicated orthopedic cases, pulmonary issues, sepsis, gastrointestinal, endocrine, cardiac, renal, and psychiatric illnesses. Some patients may have underlying behavioral health conditions that may present challenges. You must be prepared to float frequently to meet staffing needs. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:5 during the day and 1:6 at night. There may be rare occasions when the night ratio can increase to 1:7. This is a secured unit, and travelers will receive training on safety and de-escalation techniques. Weekend shifts include four weekend shifts out of eight possible in a four-week period. Travelers are required to work two out of three major holidays. RTO requests must be submitted with the application. This facility has a zero-tolerance policy for nicotine use. All scrubs worn must adhere to facility standards. You will work as part of an interdisciplinary team that includes care techs, CNAs, and support staff. Patients may be of various ages, including adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. The unit offers exposure to a wide variety of medical and surgical diagnoses. Comfort in a fast-paced environment and flexibility to float as needed is essential. Previous experience managing drips such as nitroglycerin, heparin, and insulin is required. An understanding and experience with electronic health records is necessary. Training in IV management and patient care is essential for success in this role.
