Position Overview When you join the New Jersey Judiciary, you will be part of an 8,500‑member team dedicated to independence, integrity, fairness, and high‑quality service. You will work in courtrooms, administrative offices, training rooms, IT offices, and in the field, contributing to initiatives such as bail reform, marijuana decriminalization, and recovery court. Salary The salary range for this position is $79,098.16 to $123,272.27 for Schedule A, and $79,098.16 to $117,108.66 for Schedule B. New hires begin at the minimum of the range; employees promoted from within receive a 5% increase, not to exceed the maximum of the range or the band minimum, whichever is greater. Responsibilities Conduct settlement conferences for all civil dockets—including Civil Part (L), General Equity (C), Foreclosure (F), Probate (P), and Special Civil Part (DC, LT, SC). Facilitate communication between counsel and parties to resolve issues without trial or assist in preparing cases for trial. Prepare for and convene settlement conferences and report results to the Court. Support judges’ chambers and court staff with case‑management functions such as identifying potential issues, drafting orders, reviewing pleadings for conformity, and reporting analysis. Analyze backlog and clearance statistics, identify opportunities for improvement, and recommend actions to management. Lead, provide guidance and feedback to staff, analyze cases in accordance with applicable laws and standards, and explain judiciary policies to the public. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree and at least four years of professional case‑management or dispute‑resolution experience. Graduation from an accredited law school and a Juris Doctor degree is helpful; experience as a court‑appointed mediator or settlement agent is also helpful. Completion of a mediation training program of at least forty hours recognized by the Administrative Office of the Courts. Excellent persuasive communication, listening, negotiation, creative thinking, and litigation‑process knowledge. Experience working with a diverse and multilingual client base, especially with limited English proficiency. Strong written and oral communication skills. Authorized to work in the United States; U.S. citizenship is not required. New hires must agree to a background check including fingerprinting. Must maintain a principal residence in New Jersey within one year of hire, unless exempt. Valid New Jersey driver’s license required if vehicle operation is essential. Education Substitution Associate degree + two years of relevant experience may substitute a bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree may substitute one year of experience. Law degree may substitute two years of experience. Degrees earned outside the United States must be evaluated by a recognized evaluation service. Remote Work The position offers a hybrid schedule and may qualify for up to two days of remote work per week, provided the candidate has high‑speed internet and a multifactor authentication app installed.
