Job Summary

Assists prosecutors in trial preparations and legal research as directed; performs other duties as assigned. The hiring salary for this position is $59,113 - $101,691.

Essential Functions

• Researches legal issues as directed;
• Analyzes case files and legal research regarding pending criminal cases;
• Assists prosecutors and prosecution team as requested;
• Aids in the preparation of criminal cases;
• Performs legal research;
• Reviews case files ensuring compliance with Maryland laws and Maryland Rules;
• Communicates with prosecutors and SAO support staff;
• Reviews case law, statutes, and pending legislation;
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to gain working knowledge of St. Mary's County Government policies and procedures;
• Ability to act as a representative of St. Mary's County Government to the public;
• Knowledge of the law and the preparation of legal documents and materials;
• Ability to effectively communicate with other staff, judges, attorneys, and members of the public;
• Ability to use available resources to research information;
• Ability to keep accurate records;
• Ability to operate relevant computer systems, including hardware and software, and simple office machines;
• Excellent communications and analytical skills.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree;
• Juris Doctorate Degree; or currently enrolled in an accredited Law School;
• Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience.

Physical and Environmental Conditions: Work requires no unusual demand for physical effort. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meetings and training rooms. Full salary range for this position is $59,114 - $101,691 annually. The full salary range does not reflect the anticipated hiring salary for this position. The anticipated hiring range is $59,114 - $101,691 annually, based on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience.
