Staff Accountant

Organics Unlimited is a family-owned organic produce wholesaler and importer. We’re looking for a bilingual English/Spanish Staff Accountant to join our team. This team member will handle day-to-day accounting and independently complete the month close. We’re looking for someone who brings sound judgment, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to keeping the books accurate.

Responsibilities

• Manage accounts payable, prepare vendor payments for approval, apply customer payments to open invoices, monitor collections, and maintain supporting records.
• Process payroll through a third-party provider and reconcile payroll activity in QuickBooks.
• Reconcile bank and credit card accounts through the month-end date.
• Reconcile Balance Sheet accounts, including A/R and A/P to aging reports, inventory to supporting records, and prepaids to their schedules.
• Record and review accruals, prepaid amortization, depreciation, and other recurring month-end entries.
• Prepare monthly P&L, Balance Sheet, and cash-flow reporting.
• Maintain a clear audit trail and coordinate year-end information with an outside CPA, including support for 1099s and other annual reporting.
• Provides occasional office support.

Qualifications

• Proficient in English and Spanish.
• Experience independently completing an accrual-basis month-end close and reconciling Balance Sheet accounts.
• Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks and Excel.
• Sound judgment about expense timing, unpaid liabilities, prepayments, and cash movement.
• Comfortable handling routine transactions and reviewing the accuracy of the resulting financial statements.
• Able to investigate and clearly explain discrepancies.

Experience with QuickBooks , inventory accounting, distribution, and third-party payroll is helpful.
