Staff Accountant

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join an engineering organization in Simi Valley, California in a contract-to-permanent capacity. This position will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting close activities, and helping ensure reliable reporting across day-to-day accounting operations. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on accounting experience, sound judgment, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.Responsibilities:• Maintain financial records and produce accurate accounting reports to support routine business operations and leadership visibility.• Perform reconciliations for bank activity and balance sheet accounts, investigating variances and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.• Contribute to month-end and year-end close by preparing supporting schedules, recording adjustments, and helping finalize account balances.• Process payables and receivables transactions while monitoring documentation, coding, and posting accuracy.• Create journal entries and complete account analyses to ensure the general ledger reflects current and accurate financial activity.• Assist with budget and forecast preparation by compiling financial information and supporting variance review.• Support audit readiness by organizing requested documentation, preparing reports, and responding to accounting-related inquiries.• Prepare sales tax submissions and other required filings while helping uphold compliance with accounting standards and company policies.• Partner with internal teams on payroll-related entries, expense reporting, and process improvement initiatives that strengthen accounting efficiency.
