Associate Materials Scientist

Eurofins seeks an Associate Materials Scientist to support pharmaceutical drug development through solid form characterization, polymorph screening, and particle analysis. The role involves laboratory work with small-molecule APIs, collaboration across project teams, and application of contemporary materials science techniques in Groton, Connecticut.

Responsibilities

• Conduct solid state characterization of small-molecule pharmaceuticals using analytical techniques
• Support multidisciplinary teams in crystallization, polymorph, salt, and co-crystal screening activities
• Perform particle and surface characterization of pharmaceutical powders including size, shape, and surface properties
• Collaborate with medicinal chemistry, formulation, and biopharmaceutics teams on solid form selection strategies
• Document laboratory work accurately in electronic laboratory notebook systems

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in pharmaceutical science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field plus 2+ years experience, or Master's degree
• Experience with solid state characterization techniques such as X-ray powder diffraction, polarized light microscopy, DSC, or TGA
• Strong data analysis and interpretation skills
• Understanding of physical, analytical, and organic chemistry
• Excellent organizational skills, independent work ability, and oral and written communication
• Preferred: experience with infrared spectroscopy (FTIR, NIR, FT-Raman) or solid-state NMR
• Preferred: pharmaceutical and API testing experience for drug production
