2026 - 2027 JROTC INSTRUCTOR

The JROTC Instructor directs and oversees all instructional and operational activities of the middle school JROTC Department. As department chairperson and chief instructor, the instructor manages the unit, establishes procedures for instruction, administration, operations and logistics, and ensures compliance with law, USACC regulations, APS policies and the APS Director of Army Instruction (DAI) policies. This position reports to the assigned location School Principal. Responsibilities Direct departmental functions of instruction, logistics, training, and administration. Interpret data from the Army, the DAI, and other agencies to: Develop favorable public relations. Improve instruction. Arrange opportunities for cadets to brief school officials on JROTC activities and accomplishments. Coordinate and integrate JROTC with other school departments and community agencies. Implement Army policies in the classroom. Ensure compliance, including: Adherence to law, regulation, and policies of the DAI, school district and the Army. Providing initial and semi‑annual performance counseling and school evaluation for instructors. Conducting all JROTC classes using lesson plans from the JROTC Curriculum Manager and the approved Master Training Schedule. Cadets plan and conduct at least one Service Learning project per USACC Unit Report. Projects are developed, organized, conducted and reviewed by cadets and briefed to the DAI prior to execution. Maintaining neat and orderly unit areas, current chain‑of‑command photos, cadet creed, core abilities and mission statement, and securing all sensitive items. Encouraging shared teaching responsibilities among instructors based on expertise. Completing all Army instructor certification requirements (CCR 145-2) and Georgia JROTC Instructor requirements set by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. Supervise, counsel and evaluate Army Instructors (AIs) in their responsibilities. Maintain good relations with school authorities, faculty, student body, current regulations, policies, procedures, and parents of cadets with academic or behavioral issues. Conduct public affairs efforts in local schools and with community officials to enhance understanding of JROTC, the school and the Army. Interpret and implement new regulations received from military agencies. Enroll students in JROTC and support school officials while executing the curriculum and integrated extra‑curricular activities. Prepare weekly training schedules and review those developed by the DAI annually. Establish and maintain at least two integrated or extracurricular teams (e.g., drill, rifle, raider, academic, orienteering). Support a “cadet‑run” JROTC unit where cadets actively develop unit policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Ensure participation of assigned AIs in the annual JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (summer program) as required by USACC. Enforce the contractual agreement between the school district and the Army, and promote college and honors credit opportunities for cadets. Maintain accountability of all equipment in accordance with AR 710‑2, including formal and informal accountability for items such as air rifles, clothing, and durable equipment. Recommend changes and provide solutions to the Leadership Education and Training (LET) Program of Instruction (POI). Request and distribute curriculum materials equitably among instructors. Submit required reports to the DAI and USACC as scheduled. Encourage juniors and seniors to pursue post‑secondary education and apply for at least one scholarship; ensure at least one cadet receives a scholarship offer resulting from assistance. Monitor instructors’ professional development to ensure they receive continuous training, feedback and reinforcement. Actual salary is dependent upon retired military rank and status. Minimum Requirements Direct JROTC Department functions of instruction, logistics, training, and administration. Ensure compliance, instructor counseling, class conduct with approved lesson plans, cadet service‑learning projects, unit maintenance, shared teaching responsibilities, certification requirements, and oversight of Army Instructors. Maintain relationships with authorities, faculty, students, parents, and uphold current regulations and policies. Conduct public affairs efforts, interpret regulations, enroll students, prepare training schedules, establish teams, and support cadet‑run unit governance. Ensure AI participation in JRTC Cadet Leadership Challenge, enforce contractual agreements, report to DAI and USACC, maintain equipment accountability, recommend curriculum changes, and support scholarships.
