Health Support Technician - 64003870

This is a clinical support position in the Escambia County Health Department (Escambia CHD) Family Health Clinic. This position performs a wide range of duties under the direct supervision of the Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor.

Clinical Responsibilities:

• Performing clinical procedures to include: onboarding patients--including taking patient vital signs, patient histories, screening assessments, allergy status, HIV pre/post counseling, pregnancy status and documenting all in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
• Preparing patients for and assisting with provider examinations, administering basic first aid, and operating medical equipment
• Collecting laboratory specimens as directed by the clinician and providing assistance in laboratory daily tasks, as needed
• Ensuring lab request forms are submitted to the lab when completed by the provider
• Recording all client services completed on client encounter forms and documenting services in the EHR.

Clinical Support Services:

• Preparing clinic area for clinical services: preparing exam rooms for daily patient services (i.e. stocking supplies, maintaining equipment, for each exam room; preparing supply requisitions weekly and storing supplies in assigned locations; sterilizing medical instruments and maintaining a clean clinical environment to ensure patient safety.

Clerical Support Services:

• Providing assistance to front desk staff, as requested, making appointments, checking in clients in HMS and Florida SHOTS, preparing paperwork for visits; answering phone calls and assisting with taking messages for staff, nurses and providers, as needed; shredding confidential papers, as assigned; performing office procedures including all general administration duties required, (i.e. coding for reimbursement); documenting Employee Accountability Record (EAR) data in HMS and certifying EARs daily; performing QI/QA of EHRs monthly and projects as needed.

In-Service/Staff Development & Other Related Duties:

• Participate in in-service and staff development programs related to job performance. Other related duties, which may include clinical and emergency assignments, as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of medical terminology, laboratory specimen collection and processing.
• Proficiency in vital sign measurement and client interviews
• Electronic Health Records (EHR) experience.
• Familiarity with maintaining patient confidentiality and HIPPA compliance
• Knowledge sterile process of medical instruments and use of autoclave.
• Medical office skills (data entry, scheduling appointments and maintaining records).
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of clinical team.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 1 to 3 years of experience in a clinical setting.
• Certification as Medical Assistant.
• Preferred 3 to 5 years of well documented experience in a clinical office setting with excellent phlebotomy skills.
• Certification in Phlebotomy and Certification as Medical Assistant.
