Key Responsibilities

1. Disaster Management

• Coordinate internal and external disaster response activities
• Ensure preparedness and compliance with emergency protocols

2. Legal & Compliance

• Handle discharge against medical advice (AMA)
• Manage voluntary and involuntary commitments
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA guidelines
• Oversee documentation and procedures related to patient death
• Monitor and report sentinel events
• Ensure fitness-for-duty compliance
• Implement risk management practices

3. Bed Management

• Oversee post-surgery and post-procedure patient placement
• Coordinate transfers to higher levels of care
• Manage new admissions effectively

4. Clinical & Professional Skills

• Monitor and prevent narcotic diversion
• Lead or assist in EMR conversions and equipment implementation
• Act as a clinical expert and resource person
• Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
• Ensure excellent customer service and incident reporting
• Maintain infection control and isolation protocols
• Start and manage IV lines
• Ensure compliance with regulatory bodies (DPH, TJC, OSHA)
• Follow organizational escalation processes
• Supervise nursing care across all units
• Promote workplace safety

5. Staffing & Workforce Management

• Manage decentralized and centralized staffing models
• Oversee scheduling and staffing allocations

6. Human Resource Management

• Participate in hiring and interviewing processes
• Conduct orientation for new employees
• Provide coaching and performance counseling
• Ensure compliance with federal and state labor laws (including FMLA)

7. Performance Improvement

• Utilize performance improvement tools
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives
• Promote continuous survey readiness

8. Emergency Care

• Lead code management procedures
• Apply de-escalation techniques
• Ensure emergency preparedness
• Manage assaultive or high-risk behavior

9. Financial Management

• Monitor productivity standards
• Manage staffing requirements efficiently

Additional Skills

• PICC line care and management

Requirements

• Experience: Minimum 2 years required
• Previous Charge Nurse Experience: Required
• EMR System: EPIC experience required
