EHS Specialist

POSITION SUMMARYTarkett, a global leader in innovative flooring and sports surfaces is seeking a hands-on EHS Specialist for our plant in Middlefield, OH. The EHS Specialist will support the administration of Workers Compensation, and help develop, maintain and improve environmental health and safety programs within the Middlefield site. The environmental health and safety program should strive to meet or exceed all regulatory requirements and provide for a safe work environment that is free of hazards.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Assists with all aspects of the Environmental Health and Safety programAssist in the administration of workers compensation claim management and return to work programsAssist in ensuring compliance to all Safe Work Practices (SWP), regulatory standards (EPA, OEPA, OSHA, NFPA, etc.) and plant policies and proceduresAssist with the ISO 14001 / 45001 EHS requirements and audit process for continued certificationAssists outside EHS consulting support firms to ensure complianceDesign, improve and deliver EHS training presentations and training for both small and large audiences, hourly and salariedDeliver EHS orientation to new and temporary associatesAssist in ensuring proper training and compliance to plant EHS policies and procedures involving contractor / vendor personnelConduct proactive safety surveys and inspections in order to identify potential risksPerform, document, and trend behavioral-safety observationsAnalyze data and perform trending analysis in order to identify and implement corrective actions as well as develop strategic risk mitigation strategiesAssists in providing technical assistance to associates in evaluating new / altered production equipment for potential hazardsAssist in maintaining assorted databases and software programs in support of the EHS Department and Plant EHS initiativesAid in the completion of the Plant’s monthly and annual reportsAssist in providing oversight to Plant’s hazardous and non-hazardous waste storage, handling and transport programHelp conduct ergonomic assessments of equipment, workstations, etc. as neededHelp research safety equipment for its application and purchaseAssist in personal protective equipment (PPE) selection and trials as well as to ensure its proper use, maintenance and storageServe as an EHS Champion in furthering “Safety First” cultureEngage with shop floor supervisors and employees through time on the floor; expected to be at least 50% of timeREQUIREMENTS (to include educational requirements):Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene or related discipline with a minimum of three years of manufacturing experience or equivalent combination of experienceMinimum 1 year of experience with workers compensation law, and light duty/return to work programsStrong working knowledge of all OSHA and EPA (OEPA) regulations, and experience assisting with visits and auditsKnowledge of industrial hygiene test methods and monitoring programs to also include hazard mitigation techniquesKnowledge of SPCC and SWPP Programs and PermitsKnowledge of Environmental Sampling and Record Keeping in regards to SPCC and BMPKnowledge of Tier II and FORM R reporting, Air permitting, and hazardous waste management\Understanding of Industrial wastewater discharge permitting processesWillingness to collaborate and dynamically engage with fellow Ohio Campus EHS teamExcellent verbal and written skills to include technical writingStrong interpersonal and presentations skills are essentialAdvanced computer skills are essential – Microsoft Office 365 environmentTo be able to work irregular hours including evening and weekends to accommodate the needs of a 24/7 manufacturing operationAbout Tarkett:Tarkett is a global leader in innovative flooring and sports surfaces that create value for customers in a sustainable way.
