ACCOUNTING MANAGER

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager who is ready to take on increasing leadership responsibilities and grow into a Controller role as the organization continues to evolve. Position Overview The Accounting Manager is a key member of the finance leadership team and will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance activities, and internal control processes. Working closely with executive leadership, this individual will help ensure accurate financial reporting, support strategic decision-making, and strengthen the organization's financial infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes. Prepare accurate financial statements and management reports. Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts. Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and related accounting activities. Monitor accruals, reserves, and other financial estimates in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. Analyze financial results and identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement. Assist in developing executive and board-level financial reporting packages. Provide coaching, guidance, and oversight to accounting staff. Insurance and Program Accounting Manage premium, contribution, or program revenue accounting activities. Reconcile participant or member accounts and monitor collections. Account for risk-transfer arrangements, excess coverage premiums, recoverables, and related transactions. Coordinate with claims administrators, service providers, and consultants to ensure accurate financial reporting. Support reserve analyses and related financial reconciliations. Audit, Compliance & Internal Controls Coordinate annual financial statement audits and serve as a primary contact for external auditors. Prepare audit schedules, supporting documentation, and reconciliations. Ensure compliance with accounting standards, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements. Support preparation of annual tax filings and informational returns. Recommend and implement enhancements to internal controls and accounting procedures. Budgeting & Financial Analysis Partner with finance leadership on annual budgeting and forecasting processes. Prepare cash flow projections and financial planning analyses. Assist with strategic financial initiatives and operational decision support. Provide analysis related to program performance, pricing, and organizational growth opportunities. Systems & Process Improvement Administer accounting systems and recommend process enhancements. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through automation and technology. Maintain investment and treasury-related accounting records. Participate in software implementations, upgrades, and integrations. Help build scalable accounting processes to support organizational growth. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline. Five or more years of progressive accounting experience. At least three years of experience in insurance, risk management, employee benefits, financial services, self-insurance, or another highly regulated environment. Experience preparing financial statements and supporting external audits. Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and modern accounting software platforms. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines. Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities. Preferred CPA designation or active pursuit of CPA licensure. Experience within insurance pools, captive insurance programs, risk-sharing organizations, or self-insured structures. Familiarity with reserve accounting, actuarial reporting, or claims-related financial processes. Experience in nonprofit, association, member-based, or mission-driven organizations. Prior supervisory or team leadership experience. Experience implementing financial systems, reporting tools, or process improvement initiatives.
