Direct Counsel is seeking a Commercial Litigation Associate with 4–5 years of experience to join a premier litigation practice in Los Angeles. This is an outstanding opportunity for a litigator looking to work on sophisticated, high-stakes commercial disputes, including matters involving business, brand, and reputational issues.

The ideal candidate will have significant hands-on experience managing key phases of complex litigation and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment working directly with clients and experienced trial attorneys.

Responsibilities

• Handle all phases of complex commercial litigation matters
• Manage written discovery, document discovery, and discovery strategy
• Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, pleadings, and dispositive and non-dispositive motions
• Take and defend depositions
• Assist with witness preparation and case development
• Support trial preparation, trial strategy, and courtroom proceedings
• Collaborate closely with partners, clients, and litigation teams on sophisticated disputes
• Manage case deadlines, strategy, and workflow across multiple active matters

Qualifications

• 4–5 years of commercial litigation experience
• Experience handling complex, high-stakes business disputes
• Strong experience conducting discovery and managing litigation matters
• Experience drafting and arguing motions and pleadings
• Experience taking and defending depositions
• Trial preparation and witness preparation experience
• Outstanding academic credentials
• Excellent written, verbal, analytical, and communication skills
• Comparable law firm experience preferred
• Judicial clerkship experience is a plus
• Experience on both the plaintiff and defense side is a plus
• Active California Bar admission required

Compensation & Benefits

• Base salary range: $285,000 – $325,000
