We’re hiring an experienced Accounting Manager to lead the accounting function for our property management company and managed portfolio.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who is strong with numbers, organized, and equally comfortable working with people. You’ll oversee accounting staff, review financial activity across multiple properties and entities, and work closely with company leadership, property managers, owners, banks, vendors, agencies, and outside accountants.

Our current Accounting Manager is planning for retirement and will be available to help train the person stepping into the role. This provides a unique opportunity to learn our systems, properties, and accounting processes before taking full ownership of the department.

What You’ll Do

• Oversee accounting for managed properties, the management company, and related business entities
• Supervise, train, and support accounting staff
• Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable
• Prepare, review, and analyze monthly financial statements
• Review general ledger activity and bank reconciliations
• Prepare financial reports for owners and other stakeholders
• Oversee payroll processing and related benefit payments
• Assist with budgeting and cost analysis
• Prepare owner distributions as required
• Oversee property-level accounting processes such as management fees, security deposit refunds, collections, and utility allowance refunds
• Assist with HUD and USDA Rural Development accounting and reporting
• Coordinate year-end accounting, including 1099s, Certificates of Rent Paid, and information provided to outside accounting firms
• Maintain relationships with banks, vendors, owners, agencies, and professional service providers
• Assist company leadership with special projects and other accounting needs

• Identify discrepancies, research issues, and recommend practical solutions
• Work independently while also collaborating with leadership and other departments
• Build strong working relationships with both internal staff and outside partners

Qualifications

• Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5+ years of accounting experience
• Strong understanding of GAAP
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
• Strong analytical and organizational skills
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Experience supervising or training accounting staff preferred
• Property management accounting experience preferred
• Affordable housing accounting experience is a plus
