SUPERVISOR OF ACADEMIC INSTRUCTION CORRECTIONAL FACILITY

Supervisor of Academic Instruction, Correctional Facility Department: Department of Developmental Services, Porterville Developmental Center. Salary: $10,261.00 – $13,489.00 per month. Responsibilities Assist in planning, development, and implementation of academic programs, including IDEA and WIOA grant programs. Maintain order and supervise the conduct of students; ensure the safety of persons and property. Plan, develop, and guarantee implementation of classroom instruction and management to support the achievement of adult students using evidence‑based practices and recognized instructional strategies. Monitor education program activities to ensure they build appropriate social‑emotional skills and support academic proficiency. Maintain safety of staff and individuals; prevent use of educational equipment as weapons; inspect facilities for security breaches; intervene in behaviors that could result in injury, property damage, or escape attempts. Maintain personal safety by wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and keeping it in good working condition. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a valid standard administration or supervision credential or equivalent authorization issued by the Commission for Teacher Preparation and Licensing. Experience in academic program planning and instruction in a correctional or educational setting. Knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures of academic school organization and administration; remedial teaching techniques; education of exceptional students; classroom instruction in a correctional facility; and related matters. Ability to plan, organize, and supervise academic and correspondence course programs; develop and administer courses of study adapted to students’ needs; administer and interpret assessments; keep records; prepare reports; exercise fair discipline; analyze situations and take effective action. Minimum education and experience requirements as specified in the Classification Specification. Desirable Qualifications Knowledge of psychological, vocational guidance, counseling, criminology, child psychology, sociological principles, and affirmative action programs.
