Lead Sterile Processing Tech (Night Shift)

Location & Shift Work Location: Orange, California Work Shift: Evening – 10 hours, 4 shifts per week (8pm – 6:30am) Job Summary The Sterile Processing Technician Lead performs and monitors a variety of duties related to decontamination, preparation/assembly, sterilization, and distribution of trays and sets, case carts, and equipment. The role maintains sterilization logs, instrument tracking system, and supply inventory in a sterile processing unit without direct supervision. Responsibilities also include routine cleaning and preventative maintenance of department equipment, participation in and monitoring distribution of supplies to customers with excellent customer service, managing shifts and staff, and participating in performance evaluations. Responsibilities Perform decontamination, preparation/assembly, sterilization, and distribution of trays, sets, case carts, and equipment. Maintain sterilization logs, instrument tracking system, and supply inventory. Conduct routine cleaning and preventative maintenance of department equipment. Participate in distribution of supplies to customers while maintaining excellent customer service. Manage shifts and staff during the assigned shift. Participate in performance evaluations for staff. Pay Range Minimum: $26.73 | Midpoint: $35.41 | Maximum: $44.10 Position Details Full‑time, 4 shifts per week (10 hours each) supporting the night shift (8pm–6:30am). Experience Required: Minimum two (2) years of sterile processing experience; at least one (1) year of experience in training and orienting new staff. Preferred: Five (5) years of sterile processing experience. Education Required: High School Diploma / GED or equivalent. Preferred: Associate degree in a business or healthcare related field with coursework in medical terminology, human anatomy, microbiology, infection control, decontamination, disinfection, instrument assembly and packaging, high‑level sterilization, biological testing, inventory management, and distribution. Training Required: Technician certification (CSPDS or IAHCSMM) within 6 months to 1 year of employment. Required: Operating knowledge of sterilization standards, autoclave operations, and biological monitoring. Specialized Skills Proficient in verbal and written English with excellent telephone and customer service skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks in a rapidly changing environment. Basic computer skills and familiarity with instrument tracking systems. Leadership, self‑motivation, teamwork, and precepting experience in a hospital setting. Goal‑setting, results judgment, innovation, teamwork, and exceptional customer‑service orientation. Licensure & Certification Required: RQI Responder – American Heart Association (within 6 months of hire), and CRCST or CSPDT certification (within 6 months to 1 year of employment). Preferred: IAHCSMM certification. Physical & Environmental Demands Medium to high energy level: lifting 40–50 lbs., pushing/pulling 150–200 lbs., lateral transfer 150–200 lbs., bending, carrying objects, climbing, keyboard use, fine motor activities, reaching, sitting, squatting/kneeling/crawling, standing, walking, etc. Sensory requirements include color discrimination, depth perception, vision, hearing. Environmental hazards: airborne communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, dust, extreme noise and temperatures, radiation, uneven surfaces.
