Description:
Under the supervision of nursing staff, responsible for the monitoring and direct care of patients on hemodialysis.
Monitors patients on an ongoing basis and communicates pertinent information to the appropriate team members.
Works as a member of the interdisciplinary team caring for dialysis patients.
Responds in emergency situations as required.
Reinforces education to patients regarding their treatment and care.
Documents patient care and observations accurately.
Follows operational activities specific to the assigned unit, including call-in times and breaks.
Treats patients and families with respect and dignity at all times.
Reports to work in designated attire, maintaining proper hygiene.
Communicates effectively with other departments and service organizations.
Functions as part of a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating the ability to plan work activities.
Carries out doctors' orders within the parameters of the role.
Follows infection control policies and procedures, including hand washing and use of personal protective equipment.
Responsible for helping minimize waste in the assigned unit.
In conjunction with team members, monitors and adjusts dialysis therapy within the scope of practice.
Acts as a resource referral for patients as needed.
Demonstrates problem-solving methodologies for the benefit of patients and their families.
Maintains a neat and safe work area at all times.
Demonstrates technical and task-oriented skills, including cannulation and machine setup.
Under nursing supervision, administers prescribed medications and solutions as directed.
Performs blood drawing procedures as necessary.
May be required to be on-call in acute settings as needed.
Stands and walks most of the time on duty.
Lifts and pushes patients as necessary and carries dialysate solution containers.
May be subject to hazardous wastes and materials.
Follows all safety protocols and guidelines.
Demonstrates willingness to work effectively in a complex and changing environment.
Communicates effectively with supervisors and team members.
Demonstrates customer service values in all interactions.
Completes all required education and training courses.
Acts in a manner that demonstrates commitment to organizational goals and objectives.
