Job Description: We are seeking a reliable and experienced Controller to oversee the accounting and financial activities of the organization. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Southwest St. Louis. The ideal candidate is a hands-on professional who is comfortable managing day-to-day accounting tasks while also supporting higher-level financial strategy and reporting. Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all general ledger activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close
- Prepare timely and accurate financial statements and management reports
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
- Monitor cash flow and manage banking relationships
- Maintain the accuracy of financial records and ensure compliance with GAAP
- Coordinate with external CPAs for year-end tax filings and audits
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes
- Implement and maintain internal controls and accounting procedures
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to ownership or executive leadership
- Handle payroll processing or work with a third-party provider to ensure timely and accurate payroll
- Assist in software or systems upgrades and process improvements as needed
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including prior experience in a small business or hands-on accounting environment
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar platforms)
- Solid Excel skills (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, basic data analysis)
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and take full ownership of accounting processes
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- CPA or prior public accounting experience is a plus but not required
