Essential Job Summary::

The Wellfield Manager is responsible for the safe, compliant, and reliable operation of the landfill gas collection and control system. This position leads wellfield employees and contractors, establishes work priorities, and ensures monitoring, tuning, maintenance, repairs, and construction activities are completed safely, correctly, and on schedule.

The Manager works closely with Landfill Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Environmental, and the leachate team to maintain regulatory compliance, improve gas collection, manage system reliability, and plan for future wellfield needs. This is a hands-on management role that requires strong field judgment, technical knowledge, people leadership, financial discipline, and consistent follow-through.

Essential Job Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.:

• Manage the day-to-day and long-range operation of the landfill gas collection and control system, establishing clear priorities, responsibilities, performance expectations, and follow-up for the wellfield team.
• Lead, coach, and develop wellfield employees; assign work, manage schedules and field coverage, evaluate performance, address quality or conduct concerns, and build technical depth within the team.
• Direct the work of contractors and consultants, including scope development, scheduling, field coordination, safety expectations, quality review, cost control, and verification that deliverables are complete.
• Maintain a regular field presence and ensure employees and contractors follow site procedures, environmental requirements, and safe work practices while performing wellfield activities.
• Oversee the operation, inspection, tuning, and maintenance of extraction wells, wellheads, headers, laterals, condensate systems, pumps, compressors, blowers, flares, and related monitoring equipment.
• Review field readings, monitoring results, and system data to identify trends, troubleshoot performance issues, prioritize corrective work, and implement adjustments that improve gas collection and system stability.
• Ensure required monitoring, documentation, inspections, reporting, and corrective actions are completed in accordance with site permits, New Source Performance Standards (NSPS), and other applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
• Develop and manage preventive and corrective maintenance plans, including wellhead repairs, pipe fusion or welding, pump replacement, electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, and response to alarms or unplanned downtime.
• Partner with Landfill Engineering to plan and execute wellfield expansions, new well installations, tie-ins, relocations, and other capital or system-modification projects; manage scope, schedule, cost, quality, and operational impact.
• Develop and manage the wellfield operating budget and forecasts; monitor contractor spending, materials, parts, equipment, and other costs, and communicate emerging resource needs to landfill leadership.
• Support the operation and maintenance of the leachate collection system and coordinate the response to field conditions such as breakouts, blocked lines, pump failures, and sump issues.
• Maintain accurate work orders, inspection records, tuning data, contractor documentation, and reports; communicate key performance indicators, compliance risks, system conditions, project status, and outstanding needs to landfill leadership.
• Establish training and standard-work expectations for system operation, monitoring equipment, maintenance activities, and safe job practices; ensure employees receive effective onboarding, coaching, and refresher training.
• Ensure tools, parts, monitoring equipment, and critical supplies are maintained, calibrated when required, and available to support planned, construction, and emergency work.
• Lead or support incident investigations, emergency response, and corrective-action follow-up involving wellfield, flare, condensate, or leachate-system operations.
• Work collaboratively with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Environmental, Safety, and other site teams to coordinate priorities, resolve issues, and minimize disruptions to landfill operations.
• Identify and implement practical improvements that strengthen safety, compliance, system performance, reliability, employee capability, and cost control.
• Provide after-hours leadership and respond to urgent system issues, alarms, weather events, or other site needs as required.

Requirements and Qualifications::

• High school diploma or equivalent required. An associate or bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, construction, industrial technology, or a related field is preferred.
• At least seven 10 years of progressive experience in landfill gas, natural gas, wellfield construction, industrial maintenance, or a related field environment.
• At least three 5 years of experience leading employees, contractors, or field crews, including responsibility for work planning, performance, and results.
• Strong working knowledge of landfill gas collection-system installation, operation, tuning, troubleshooting, maintenance, and expansion practices.
• Demonstrated understanding of environmental compliance, required monitoring, recordkeeping, reporting, and corrective-action requirements for landfill gas collection and control systems, including NSPS requirements.
• Experience developing budgets, managing contractors or vendors, controlling project costs, and coordinating field construction or capital-improvement work.
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting ability, including experience with pumps, compressors, blowers, flares, monitoring equipment, condensate systems, and HDPE piping.
• Ability to read and interpret wellfield plans, CAD-generated drawings, as-built drawings, technical specifications, and equipment manuals.
• Experience using gas-monitoring equipment, operational reporting systems, work-order or maintenance systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide clear direction and work effectively with employees, contractors, regulators, consultants, and cross-functional teams.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, respond with urgency when system conditions change, and maintain appropriate attention to safety, compliance, quality, cost, and schedule.
• Valid driver's license and the ability to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to urgent site needs outside normal business hours.
• Ability to work outdoors in active landfill conditions, including dirt, odors, noise, uneven terrain, and weather extremes, and to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Salary Range Minimum: USD $125,000.00/Yr. Salary Range Maximum: USD $160,000.00/Yr.
