Job Summary: Provide essential clinical support in the operating room, assisting anesthesia providers, surgeons, and team members with procedural tasks to ensure smooth surgical operations. Maintain high standards of instrument processing and sterile technique in accordance with industry guidelines.

Essential Responsibilities

• Assist surgical teams by preparing and managing instruments and supplies, adhering to established sterilization and decontamination protocols.
• Monitor and maintain equipment and instruments following manufacturer and professional standards such as AMMI, AORN, and AST.
• Adapt to fluctuating department activity by prioritizing tasks and managing time efficiently.
• Support nursing staff by obtaining specialized supplies promptly to maintain quality patient care.
• Collaborate with surgical and anesthesia teams to plan and adjust patient care needs intraoperatively.
• Contribute to updating preference cards, instrument sets, and supply lists as technology and procedures evolve.
• Promote teamwork by accepting and delegating tasks appropriately.

Patient Satisfaction

• Work closely with healthcare providers to coordinate intraoperative care and ensure timely instrument and supply setup.
• Maintain a professional, calm environment with minimal noise to enhance patient and staff experience.
• Exemplify excellent interpersonal skills with patients, visitors, physicians, and colleagues.
• Support efficient patient flow by adapting to changes in daily surgical schedules.

Patient Safety

• Perform thorough cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of all surgical instruments and equipment.
• Prepare for surgical interventions tailored to individual patient needs and respond to unexpected changes during procedures.
• Adhere strictly to HIPAA regulations and social media policies.
• Implement double-check systems for medications and supplies passed to the sterile field.
• Report any breaches in sterile technique or patient care protocols promptly.

Professional Development

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of anatomy, instruments, and equipment.
• Share expertise through orientation, cross-training, and mentoring of peers and new staff.
• Identify learning needs and collaborate with management to pursue professional growth opportunities.
• Participate in departmental goal setting and attend in-services on product and practice changes.

Customer Service

• Build and maintain strong relationships with physicians, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare team members.
• Provide a professional and quiet environment for patients.

Education and Certification

• Current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the appropriate state board.

Work Schedule: Full-time day shift, approximately 40 hours per week, with call requirements.

This position is located in a regional healthcare facility serving the Midwest area of the United States.
