About the Position

Job Title: MedSurg/Tele RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience License: Current RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience - BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Description: The facility consists of 457 licensed beds and is a Trauma Level III teaching hospital. It serves as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center of Excellence. The department operates with an average daily census of 8 patients. Patient types include those experiencing chest pain, syncope, and angina. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5. General Med/Tele skills required include stroke experience and cardiac rhythm interpretation. Other skills necessary are trach care, PIV starts, and chest tube management. Additional skills include NGT placement and management of drains and tubes. The role involves medication management, including cardiac drips, Heparin, and blood products. Support within the department includes a supervisor and a charge RN. A resource RN will assist with admissions and discharges. Hospitalists are available 24/7 but are not dedicated solely to this unit. Phlebotomy responsibilities are shared among RNs and the IV team. The facility utilizes EPIC for electronic medical records and Alaris for IV pumps. Floating will occur within the region and scope of practice as needed. Travelers may float to different facilities within the designated region. The work schedule includes a weekend rotation every other week and holiday expectations of 75% coverage. The unit fosters a great team environment with activities such as a book club and streaming clubs. Travelers are welcomed as part of the team and encouraged to contribute to the positive culture.
