Provide essential clinical support in the operating room, assisting anesthesia providers, surgeons, and team members with procedural tasks to ensure smooth surgical operations. Maintain high standards of instrument processing and sterile technique in accordance with industry guidelines.

Essential Responsibilities

• Assist with procedural tasks and support surgical teams during operations.
• Monitor and process instruments and equipment following manufacturer and professional standards such as AMMI, AORN, and AST.
• Perform cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment.
• Adapt to changing priorities and workflow demands as directed by leadership.
• Use supplies judiciously to maintain cost-effectiveness without compromising patient care.

Quality and Patient Care

• Support nursing staff by obtaining non-routine supplies promptly to ensure uninterrupted patient care.
• Respond quickly to changes in patient care needs and collaborate with anesthesia and surgical teams to adjust plans accordingly.
• Participate in updating preference cards, instrument sets, and supply pull sheets to reflect technological advances.
• Promote teamwork by accepting and delegating tasks appropriately.

Patient Satisfaction and Safety

• Work collaboratively with healthcare providers to prepare instrument and supply setups prior to cases.
• Maintain a professional, quiet environment to enhance patient comfort and safety.
• Adhere strictly to HIPAA regulations and social media policies.
• Verify medications and supplies passed to the sterile field using a double-check system.
• Report any breaches in sterile technique or patient safety concerns promptly.

Professional Development

• Maintain current knowledge of anatomy, instruments, and equipment.
• Share expertise through orientation, cross-training, and mentoring peers and new staff.
• Identify learning needs and collaborate with management to pursue professional growth opportunities.

• Build strong relationships with physicians, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare team members.
• Maintain a professional demeanor and practice AIDET (Acknowledge, Identify, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) to enhance patient and visitor experience.
• Be flexible with assignments, staffing, and shift changes to support team needs.

Education and Licensure

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license from the appropriate state nursing board.
