Job Details Job Status: OPEN Effective for 2026-27 Posting Number: 00058535 School/Department: Rosa Parks Elementary School Location: Woodbridge, VA Days: 195 Full Time/Part Time: Full Time Job Summary This position develops and implements effective instructional practices based on the needs identified in students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The teacher develops, implements and monitors IEPs in collaboration with parents and other IEP team members. The teacher promotes a collaborative relationship with school staff and parents to foster inclusionary practices. Essential Responsibilities Assumes the responsibilities of a special-education teacher as listed in Prince William County Public Schools Regulation 561-2, Certified Personnel Responsibilities, Duties and Workday. Develops IEPs, plans curriculum, develops individualized lesson plans and prepares instructional materials that reflect an understanding of the learning styles and needs of assigned students, considering the Virginia Standards of Learning, local requirements and the physical, emotional, and academic levels of development. Instructs students in all areas specified by the IEP. Develops and implements a variety of effective teaching strategies and techniques such as hands‑on activities, student interaction, lecture, group work, etc., to present instructional content to the students. Plans, integrates and utilizes technology for classroom instruction. Utilizes assistive technology and specialized equipment. Works with students to increase motivation, provides consistent reinforcement to learning, continuously assesses level of functioning, and provides continuous feedback for all learning activities. Develops and implements a plan for managing classroom behaviors in accordance with IEP using a variety of positive behavioral supports. Participates in the development and implementation of Behavioral Intervention Plans using the Functional Behavior Assessment process. Administers, interprets, and reports standardized test results for purposes of evaluating educational progress and determining eligibility for special education. Participates in staff, department and special‑education committee meetings as required. Maintains a system of record keeping and data collection following required procedures as outlined in the Special Education Manual. Compiles and maintains the special‑education component of the Student Education Record as outlined in the Special Education Manual. Completes the 30‑hour staff development requirement of Prince William County Public Schools. Participates in specialized staff development activities to improve job‑related skills and apply best practices in working with students with disabilities. Collaborates in a co‑teaching situation with a general‑education classroom teacher to assess program effectiveness, recommend instructional strategies, ensure implementation of student’s required accommodations and/or modifications, provide curriculum coordination between general and special education, and evaluate the student’s educational progress. Consults with the general‑education teacher regarding instructional and behavioral strategies for assigned students in general‑education classes. Informs general‑education teachers of accommodations and modifications required by the students’ IEPs. Plans and supervises assignments for teacher assistant(s) and/or other volunteer(s). Other duties as assigned. Professional Expectations Work collaboratively with all stakeholders in Launching Thriving Futures. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Communicate effectively. Relate to and interact with a non‑traditional and diverse student and employee population. Report to work on a regular and punctual basis as scheduled. Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program. Have knowledge of and be able to use relevant technology. Participate in the annual professional growth planning process. Recognize that they are in a position of public trust and are held to a high standard of personal and professional conduct. Qualifications Knowledge of and adherence to federal, state and local laws and regulations governing the education of students with disabilities. Education and Experience Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree. Preferred Education: Master’s Degree. Certification and Licensure Virginia teaching certificate with endorsements in the area of disability served; in lieu of complete endorsement, a conditional license may be granted if the teacher is working toward complete endorsement at a rate of a minimum of six (6) semester hours per year. Work Environment and Physical/Mental Requirements The work environment and physical and mental demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters and is expected to meet while performing the essential functions of this job. Work is performed in a standard indoor and outdoor environment. Essential functions may be performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, including unpleasant weather or building conditions and uneven terrain.
