Job Title: 6th Grade Teacher – 195 Day (Full Day) – Open. Effective 2026-27. Posting Number: 00058711. School: Lynn Middle School, Woodbridge, VA. FLSA Status: Exempt, Pay Level 00012. Job Summary This position plans and implements an instructional program and provides related educational services for students in grades 6-8. The teacher manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, modifies instructional activities as required, and performs related duties as assigned. The role may include teaching single or multi‑grade level classes, specialty subjects, or lab environments requiring increased monitoring. Essential Responsibilities Assess student achievement and maintain appropriate assessment documentation for institutional and individual reporting. Plan and implement appropriate instructional and/or learning strategies, select materials, and manage learning time to maximize student achievement. Use a variety of instructional materials and technology to enhance learning. Manage behavior in instructional settings; assist in behavior management in other school areas. Coordinate instructional activities with other staff to maximize learning opportunities. Serve in a self‑contained, team, departmental, itinerant capacity, or off‑school site visits to monitor students. Participate in in‑service training, professional development, and staff meetings as required. Foster partnerships and communicate with parents, keeping them informed of student progress. Communicate instructional expectations to students. Assign work and supervise instructional assistants, parent and student volunteers. Serve at two or more schools as itinerant, as required. Support or participate in schoolwide student activities and social events. Monitor student behavior in non‑instructional areas, intervene to control disruptive behavior, and report to administrators. Collaborate with guidance counselors, librarians, and other professionals on schoolwide activities. Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities) Knowledge of instructional processes, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment related to assigned specialties. Knowledge of pre‑adolescent and adolescent growth and development. Knowledge of the Prince William County Curriculum and Division mission and goals. Ability to apply current research and theory to instructional programs. Skill in using multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning. Ability to plan and implement lessons aligned with Division and school objectives and student needs. Skill in oral and written communication; excellent human relations skills. For foreign language instruction: proficiency in oral and written communication in that language. For choral music: ability to demonstrate singing and choral techniques, proficiency on piano, and ability to distinguish pitches. For instrumental music: proficiency in one or more instruments and ability to model correct techniques. For visual art: personal portfolio demonstrating artistic ability and experience in various media. For career and technical education: vocational proficiency and preferable on‑the‑job or supervisory experience. Education and Experience Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree. Minimum work experience equivalent to at least Type Area or Field. Certifications and Licenses Virginia state teaching certification; eligible for the Virginia State Certification Program. Postsecondary professional or vocational certificate/license, endorsement required for teaching assignments. For itinerant or off‑site roles: valid Virginia automobile operator’s license. Work Environment The teacher works in standard indoor classrooms or labs, with occasional exposure to minor inconveniences such as noise, screen exposure, and crowded conditions.
