SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHER - 195 DAY

Position Title Social Studies Teacher – 195-Day Full‑time Job Summary This position plans and implements an instructional program and provides related educational services for students. It manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, and modifies instructional activities as required. The teacher may be assigned to science labs, industrial arts/technology, or other education labs and performs work under the general supervision of a principal or other administrator. Essential Responsibilities Assess continually student achievement and maintain appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation. Plan and implement appropriate instructional and/or learning strategies, including determination of appropriate materials and use of multimedia and computer technology. Manage the behavior of learners to ensure a conducive learning environment. Coordinate instructional activities with other professional staff to maximize learning opportunities. Work in a self‑contained, team, departmental, itinerant capacity or make off‑school site visits as required. Participate in in‑service and professional development activities and staff meetings. Foster partnerships with parents and maintain continuous communication. Communicate instructional expectations to students. Assign work and supervise instructional assistants, parent, and student volunteers. Serve at two or more schools on a regular basis as itinerant. Support or participate in school‑wide student activities and social events. Monitor student behavior in non‑instructional areas and intervene to control disruptive behavior. Collaborate with other professionals (guidance counselors, librarians, etc.) for school‑wide activities. Qualifications Knowledge of the instructional process. Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of assigned instructional specialty. Knowledge of pre‑adolescent and adolescent growth and development. Knowledge of the Prince William County Curriculum and school division mission. Ability to apply current research and theory to instructional programs. Skill in the use of multimedia and computer technology. Ability to plan and implement lessons based on Division and school objectives and student needs. Strong oral and written communication and human relations skills. State teaching certification in Virginia (or equivalent). Valid automobile operator’s license required if assigned as itinerant. Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degrees preferred. Work Environment The role is performed in an indoor classroom or lab setting with routine exposure to minor environmental conditions such as noise and computer screens. #J-18808-Ljbffr IMDiversity
