LANGUAGE ARTS TEACHER - 195 DAY

Job Summary This is a full‑time, 195‑day, Language Arts teacher position at Woodbridge MS (Woodbridge, VA). The teacher plans and implements an instructional program, manages student behavior, assesses achievement, and modifies instruction as needed. Responsibilities include classroom instruction across single or multi‑grade levels, coaching, and occasional work in science/industrial arts labs. The role reports to the principal and may serve multiple schools as an itinerant teacher. Essential Responsibilities Continuously assess student achievement and maintain assessment documentation for institutional reporting. Plan and implement instructional strategies, select appropriate materials, manage instructional time, and use multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning. Manage student behavior within the instructional setting and assist in behavior management in other school areas. Coordinate instructional activities with other staff, both school‑based and external, to maximize learning opportunities. Work in a self‑contained, team, departmental, itinerant, or field role, and may conduct off‑school site visits to monitor students. Participate in in‑service and professional development activities and staff meetings as required. Foster partnerships and maintain continuous communication with parents to inform them of student progress. Communicate with students about instructional expectations to keep them informed of their progress. Assign work to and supervise instructional assistants, parent volunteers, and student volunteers. Serve at two or more schools on a regular itinerant basis. Support or participate in schoolwide student activities and social events. Monitor student behavior in non‑instructional areas, intervene to control disruptive behavior, and report to the appropriate administrator. Collaborate with other professionals (guidance counselors, librarians, etc.) to carry out schoolwide instructional or related activities as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge of the instructional process, relevant content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment. Knowledge of pre‑adolescent and adolescent growth and development. Knowledge of Prince William County curriculum and the Division’s mission, goals, and organization. Ability to apply current research and theory to instructional programs. Skill in using multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning. Able to plan and implement lessons that align with Division and school objectives and meet the needs of assigned students. Strong oral and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills. For foreign‑language instruction proficiency in the target language. For choral music instruction, ability to demonstrate singing/choral techniques and proficiency on the piano. For instrumental music instruction, proficiency in one or more instruments and ability to model correct techniques. For visual arts instruction, a portfolio demonstrating artistic ability and experience. For career and technical education, journey‑level proficiency in the trade with on‑the‑job and supervisory experience desirable. Bachelor’s degree (minimum). Virginia State Certification or equivalent professional certificate/license; eligibility for the Virginia State Certification Program. Work Environment The teacher works indoors in a classroom or office setting, with occasional exposure to minor disruptions such as noise, computer use, and crowded conditions.
