Operations Accounting Manager

This position has overall accountability and responsibility for providing financial representation and support for CHG’s manufacturing facility. Responsibilities and Duties Lead the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements related to plant operations. Analyze production cost data (materials, labor, overhead, etc.) to ensure accuracy and provide meaningful insights for decision‑making. Prepare and distribute key financial reports to plant management, highlighting variances to budget, cost‑control opportunities, and performance trends. Track and analyze plant capital expenditures (CAPEX), including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting. Oversee the plant’s cost accounting systems, ensuring that all production costs are properly tracked, reported, and allocated to finished goods. Monitor and manage direct and indirect production costs (raw materials, labor, utilities, etc.) and recommend improvements to achieve cost efficiency. Work with operations teams to assess and improve production processes for cost savings, waste reduction, and efficiency. Develop and maintain standard cost systems for the plant, including labor rates, material costs, and overhead rates. Oversee the accuracy and valuation of raw materials, work‑in‑progress, and finished goods inventory. Coordinate with supply chain and procurement teams to monitor inventory levels, forecast needs, and manage aging inventory. Lead the annual budgeting process for the plant, working with plant management and operations to develop accurate, achievable financial targets. Develop and maintain rolling forecasts to ensure financial performance is aligned with business goals. Monitor plant operating performance and adjust financial projections as necessary. Ensure plant financial operations comply with company policies, GAAP, and relevant industry regulations (e.g., FDA, USDA). Collaborate with internal auditors during regular audits and resolve any discrepancies or issues. Assist with implementation of cost control and financial system improvements to maintain strong internal controls. Partner with plant management, production supervisors, and department heads to understand operational challenges and financial implications. Provide financial support and analysis to operations teams to drive process improvements and optimize resource utilization. Act as liaison between plant operations and corporate finance departments, ensuring seamless communication of financial data. Manage or participate in special projects such as system upgrades, new product costing, and financial analysis of new product lines or equipment purchases. Implement process improvements or financial system changes that enhance accuracy and efficiency of plant operations accounting. Perform all other duties as assigned. Minimum Job Requirements Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field. Certification: CPA or CMA preferred. Experience: Minimum 5 years in accounting or finance within a manufacturing environment, preferably in food manufacturing. Experience with cost accounting, plant operations, budgeting, and financial reporting. Familiarity with financial systems (ERP systems, SAP, Oracle, etc.) and advanced Excel skills. Knowledge of activity‑based costing (ABC) or other specialized costing methodologies. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote) and related applications. Strong knowledge of cost accounting, inventory valuation, and financial analysis. Ability to interpret complex financial data and translate into actionable business insights. Detail‑oriented with focus on accuracy, accountability, and timeliness in financial reporting. Strong communication skills and ability to present financial information to non‑financial stakeholders. Ability to work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities. Strong problem‑solving skills and capacity to prioritize projects and communicate direction internally and externally. Working Conditions Primarily office‑based, but regular presence in the plant is required to interact with plant operations, leadership, and staff. May be required to visit different plant areas to observe operations and gather data. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift and carry 15 pounds at times. Standard business hours with occasional evening or weekend work during month‑end close or critical project timelines.
