Development Director

Job Description

The Development Director will support Habitat for Humanity Buffalo in fulfilling its mission and meeting development goals by acting as the operational leader of fundraising and communications for the organization. This position will be responsible for executing the organization’s fundraising strategy, managing donor systems and overseeing integrated campaigns that drive revenue growth.

Responsibilities

Strategic execution

• Translate organizational fundraising strategy into an annual development plan
• Align fundraising initiatives with communications and programmatic priorities
• Support implementation of multi-year revenue goals

Fundraising & revenue management

• Lead annual fund efforts, including amplification of Habitat for Humanity International campaigns
• Develop and manage mid-level donor portfolio ($1,000–$24,999)
• Oversee monthly giving program growth and retention
• Create and implement peer-to-peer and community fundraising models tied to build-site engagement
• Develop and manage a robust events revenue strategy, including partnerships with Habitat Young Professionals (HYP)

Corporate & sponsorship development

• Manage house sponsorship program
• Cultivate and steward corporate relationships
• Identify opportunities for long-term corporate engagement

Operations & management

• Supervise two direct reports
• Oversee CRM strategy, data integrity, and policy/procedure development
• Manage development and communications budget
• Coordinate integrated fundraising campaigns (direct mail, digital, events)
• Track KPIs and report performance to the CEDO

Additional Responsibilities

• Attend internal staff meetings and trainings as required/necessary
• Oversee volunteers who support this role
• Remain knowledgeable about Habitat for Humanity International programs, practices and trainings; utilize appropriate resources and participate trainings as appropriate/necessary
• Follow and enforce Habitat Buffalo safety protocols
• Appropriately document company spending (must be approved by manager in advance)
• Attend relevant trainings, local and/or out of state, as required by the CEDO
• Promote a positive work atmosphere
• Is committed to demonstrating Habitat Buffalo’s core values

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 7-10 years of applicable work experience
• Data management experience (Salesforce preferred)
• Flexible schedule conducive to special events, campaigns, trainings, etc.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and demonstrated written skills
• Experience managing volunteers and staff
• Experience managing sponsorship contracts
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, attention to detail
• Works well both independently and in a team setting
• Responsible self-starter with team-orientation
• Valid driver’s license
