Base pay range $100,000.00/yr - $110,000.00/yr Overview The University of San Francisco (USF) is recognized internationally as a leading Jesuit Catholic, urban university with a diverse student and faculty population and a global perspective. We are looking for an organized and experienced Director of Development who is energized by fundraising as a vehicle to change the world. POSITION SUMMARY: The University of San Francisco is in the third year of its most ambitious fundraising campaign. The USF Campaign has a $500M goal that will enhance the University’s presence and scholarship in the arts, health and life sciences, and entrepreneurism, as well as continue to provide access and opportunity for our diverse population of students. Working closely with the Senior Director, Major Gifts, the Special Initiatives Gift Officer oversees the fundraising strategy for several key areas and programs on campus including but not limited to: Black Achievement, Success and Engagement (BASE), The Institute for Nonviolence and Social Justice (INSJ), the McCarthy Center for Public Service and the Common Good, Center for Asia Pacific Studies (CAPS), and Getty Honors College. The Special Initiatives Gift Officer manages relationships and secures support from donors capable of making gifts between $5,000 and $20,000, or more. The position will coordinate the participation and involvement of campus leadership and directors of the individual units in these fundraising efforts. Responsibilities Principal duties and responsibilities Designs and implements a comprehensive development plan to increase philanthropic support for funding priorities within the University. Manages a portfolio of more than 100 individual and household prospects. Makes at least 6-10 significant prospect/donor visits per month. Qualifies 12-24 gift prospects per year. Cultivates and solicits current use and endowment gifts directly, including proposal development. Conducts 15-24 solicitations with emphasis on gifts exceeding $5,000. ) 20% Leadership and Collaboration Advises unit directors and other leadership on fundraising strategy, solicitation opportunities, proposal development, and identifies faculty to highlight to USF’s different giving audiences. Partners with Corporation and Foundation Relations, Gift Planning, and Annual Fund teams to achieve annual and campaign development goals. Engage in collaborative efforts within the Development division to strategize solicitation approaches for key prospects. 15% Volunteer Management and Events Collaborates with unit directors to identify, recruit, and actively engage advisory board members with a focus on gift prospect identification, solicitation, and stewardship. Plan and execute small donor events and luncheons, and partner with Development Special Events on other events and lectures relevant to focus areas. Qualifications Three years of progressive and successful development experience in direct gift solicitation, preferably in higher education. Demonstrated ability to build rapport with prospects and donors and successfully move them through the moves management cycle. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including proposal writing and the ability to deliver a compelling case for support. Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver innovative ideas and programs. Commitment to the appropriate use of sensitive, confidential constituent data and familiarity with relevant privacy laws. Demonstrated time management, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Willingness to travel and work weekend/evening hours.
