Job Description Controller Healthcare Services | Chicago Metro (South/Southwest Suburbs) | Hybrid (4 Days On-Site) Compensation: $150,000 Base + Annual Bonus About the Opportunity Flying Horse Capital is supporting a longtime strategic partner on this search. Our partner is a private equity firm we have co-invested alongside, and one that shares much of our long-term philosophy: patient capital, operator-first partnerships, and building durable companies. Their typical hold period is five to seven years, with select businesses held longer term. Their portfolio company, a growing healthcare services business located between Chicago Heights and Plainfield, is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the accounting function and own the close. The Role Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will run accounting operations and manage a small team while staying close to the work. This frees the CFO to focus on FP&A, strategic initiatives, and growth. The Controller will also partner closely with the Director of Revenue Cycle Management to align accounting with revenue cycle operations and sharpen reporting. This role suits a healthcare accounting leader who likes building processes, developing people, and rolling up their sleeves in a scaling organization. Key Responsibilities Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, delivering accurate and timely financial reporting Lead day-to-day accounting: GL, AP, AR, reconciliations, accruals, and financial statement preparation Prepare and review monthly GAAP financial statements Own patient service revenue recognition, contractual allowance and implicit price concession reserves, and payer-level AR reporting Manage, mentor, and develop the accounting team while remaining hands-on Strengthen accounting policies, internal controls, and close processes to support growth Partner with the CFO on reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and strategic initiatives Work with the Director of Revenue Cycle Management to reconcile billing and collections to the GL, improve cash collections, and increase financial visibility Support private equity reporting and respond to sponsor and lender information requests Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and external accounting relationships Identify system and process improvements as the finance function scales Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field Progressive accounting experience, including ownership of the month-end close Healthcare industry experience required , including: Patient service revenue recognition under ASC 606 Contractual allowances, implicit price concessions, and bad debt reserves Multi-payer environments (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial, and self-pay) Close partnership with revenue cycle teams and familiarity with billing, coding, and collections workflows Reconciling EHR or practice management system data to the general ledger Experience managing and developing accounting staff Strong command of GAAP, financial reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls Ability to lead the function while staying in the details Strong communication, leadership, and cross-functional skills PE-backed or high-growth company experience preferred CPA and Big Four experience preferred Location & Compensation Hybrid: four days on-site and one day remote each week. The office is in Chicago's south/southwest suburbs, between Chicago Heights and Plainfield. Base salary of $150,000 plus an annual performance bonus.
