Respiratory Therapist II, PT Nights - NICU

Overview The Respiratory Therapist II provides medication administration and implements respiratory care using an expanded knowledge base and evaluate‑and‑treat process. The role is focused on delivering patient care in complex, multiple problem-patient situations, with a majority of time spent in critical care areas where ventilator management, independent decision‑making, and self‑direction are essential. In addition to direct patient care, the RT II provides patient and family education, coordinates activities, supports staff development, and participates in the education of new employees and peers. The position addresses biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and educational needs of the patient while ensuring cultural competence and population‑specific awareness. Responsibilities Provide customer service Completion of patient care, documentation, and education Team approach to service Promotes a team spirit and positive work environment Provides supportive environment for students and staff Administers quality patient care Patient assessment and therapy assessment Collaborates with health‑care team members in planning patient care Verifies orders and administers aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, oxygen, and medical gas therapy Performs ventilator management, weaning, waveform graphic interpretation; airway management (intubation, extubation, trach tube change and care) Performs arterial blood gas sampling and analysis Educates patient and mentors/precepts new employees, students, and peers Assists in invasive and non‑invasive procedures, cardiac service procedures, and pulmonary diagnostic testing Provides safe & quality environment Promotes current and accurate electronic orders, charting, and charging Promotes high level of patient safety (Medication Safety, NPSG, etc.) Promotes performance improvement initiatives designed to promote quality care Promotes evidence‑based practice and reviews revised and new DPPs Performs other duties as assigned; complies with all WellStar health system policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Qualifications Minimum Education Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy education program (CoARC or CAAHP) with minimally 20 quarter hours of science. Associate’s Degree (A.S.) required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Minimum Experience 0‑2 years clinical experience with a minimum of 6 months critical care. Minimum Skills Effective communication, critical thinking, and the ability to establish and maintain working relationships with physicians and other health‑care professionals. Computer skills, including familiarity with databases. Strong customer‑relation, assessment, and communication skills. Required Minimum Licenses and Certifications Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) required. Respiratory Care Professional (RCP) required. Basic Life Support (BLS) required; BLS Instructor and BLS Provisional required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required; ACLS Instructor and ACLS Provisional required. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required; PALS Instructor and PALS Provisional required. Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) required; NRP Instructor and NRP Provisional required.
