We are accepting applications for Accounting Assistant II. At this time, we have 1 opening for an 8-hour, 12-month employee in the Fiscal Department. The work hours for this position are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Under the direction of an administrator or designee, to perform difficult and responsible accounting and fiscal record management functions that involve manual and computer-assisted record management systems; to prepare a variety of fiscally related reports and records; and to do other related work as required. Incumbents in this classification provide students and staff with a variety of fiscal record management functions services which in turn directly supports learning.
Essential job functions include establishing, balancing, verifying, adjusting, and maintaining accounting and fiscally related records and reports; reviewing, sorting, and maintaining a variety of fiscal accounts payable and receivable information, files, and records to ensure comprehensive and accurate data compliance with prescribed accounting systems and generally accepted principles of accounting; generating and distributing invoices of varying complexity on behalf of the District; processing a variety of documents, verifying items received and services rendered before payment process, pertaining to financial-related transactions; operating a computer terminal in posting to records and files; receiving money and preparing a record of cash receipts; receiving, reviewing, and verifying financial documents and reports for accuracy and adherence to legal mandates, policies, and operational guidelines; processing payments using the District fiscal services system through the Los Angeles County Office of Education fiscal services system; preparing or assisting in the preparation of a variety of reports required by Federal, State, and County agencies; making complex arithmetical calculations and verifying the accuracy of computer system output reports; preparing documents and verifying warrant listings and releases of payment from various accounts and funds; responding to inquiries, including phone, mail, and walk-ins (e.g., district staff, vendors, district and site personnel, contractors, community representatives, etc.) to resolve issues, provide requested information, and/or refer to appropriate department personnel; preparing bank deposit documents and reconciling bank statements; performing accounts payable and accounts receivable functions and performing a variety of follow up activities in clearing vendor warrants; posting to subsidiary ledgers, journals, and summaries; may prepare trial balances and financial statements; assisting District personnel in the resolution of payroll issues and concerns; preparing or assisting in the preparation of State and Federal payroll related documents and reports; receiving, reviewing, and verifying payroll documents and reports for accuracy and adherence to legal mandates, policies, and operational guidelines; preparing and distributing personnel and fringe benefit records summaries; preparing and releasing payroll warrants and various payroll documents; performing other duties related to the class as assigned.
Skills, knowledge, and/or abilities required include performing complex accounting and fiscally related clerical functions; preparing and reviewing financial reports, records, and related summaries; performing double entry bookkeeping, as required by the assignment; making complex arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy using a 10-key calculator touch process; methods, practices, and procedures pertaining to accounting and fiscally related record management systems; manual and computer-assisted accounting and fiscal record management systems; bank deposits and statement reconciliation processes; fiscal report preparation and formatting; inventory control processes and procedures; establishing and maintaining positive and effective working relationships; working courteously and tactfully with co-workers, public and parents; promoting team building and a positive work environment; adapting easily to work assignments, additional priorities and new procedures; receiving constructive criticism and modifying work appropriately; prioritizing and identifying needs and solving problems independently as appropriate; suggesting procedural improvements to supervisor as appropriate; skillfully handling difficult situations using good judgment; maintaining high level of professionalism in keeping the needs of customers a top priority; understanding and carrying out oral and written directions; operating computers and other business equipment; keyboard at an acceptable rate of speed.
Experience and education requirement: Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in fiscal record management and reporting involving manual and computer-assisted processes. Education: Equivalent to the completion of High School, supplemented by training or coursework in accounting, bookkeeping, and business practices and procedures.
Physical demands: Persons performing service in this position classification will be expected to perform light work, which involves lifting no more than 20 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, an incumbent must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities. If someone can do light work, it is deemed that he or she can also do sedentary work, unless there are additional limiting factors such as loss of fine dexterity or inability to sit for long periods of time. (Per the Code of Federal Regulations Section 404.1567 "Physical Exertion Requirements") Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a person with a disability to perform the essential functions of the job.

Permanent employees, who work in this classification and are interested in one of the current openings, may submit a Request to Transfer Form with the Division of Human Resources. Human Resources must receive the transfer request prior to the application deadline. Qualified applicants, who meet the minimum qualifications, will participate in a written examination and technical oral interview, which will demonstrate the required knowledge and skill for this classification. The weight percentage of the examination and interview will be 50/50. Those applicants who receive a passing score on the written exam and oral interview will be placed on an Eligibility List. The top three ranks of candidates on the Eligibility List, who are ready, willing and able to accept the position, will be invited to the Final Selection Interview with the hiring authority. The eligibility list will be certified for a period of six months. It will be used to fill current substitute and future permanent openings.

The District offers a comprehensive package of insurance benefits. Employees working less than full-time, but a minimum of four hours will contribute an amount proportionate to the number of assigned work hours for major medical insurance benefits. The District does not offer a package of insurance benefits to employees working less than four hours per day. The District provides life insurance for employees who work a minimum of 3 hours. In addition, the District offers a retirement plan which uses joint employee and employer contributions. Fingerprinting: Employees will be charged for processing their fingerprints at the time they are hired. The fingerprints are used to complete a confidential background investigation. All candidates with a record of convictions must indicate such on the confidential data form, which is attached to the job application. A record of conviction will not automatically disqualify an applicant from employment, but failure to list all convictions may result in disqualification or dismissal. Physical Examination: Newly hired employees must pass a qualifying Medical examination given by a District-appointed physician, which includes testing for illegal controlled substances. Tuberculosis Exam: Newly hired employees must submit a Mantoux Skin screening and certificate of completion within the past 60 days that indicates freedom from active tuberculosis. An Eligibility Verification Form (I-9) will be required along with the supporting documents listed on the I-9 form.
