Asset Protection Manager

Job Summary The Asset Protection Manager (APM) plays a critical role in protecting company assets, team members, customers, and profitability across a defined geographic territory. This leader is responsible for supporting and executing asset protection programs, minimizing shrink and risk, and ensuring consistent safety and security standards in retail and pharmacy operations. The APM conducts internal theft and fraud investigations, including interviewing team members to determine root cause and establishing responsibility consistent with Walgreens Asset Protection standards. This role partners closely with store, district, and support center leadership, analyzes operational and financial data, and provides strategic asset protection direction to field operations teams. The APM also collaborates with external partners in support of safety, security, and profitability across assigned locations. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, strategic and analytical thinking, cross‑functional collaboration, and the ability to lead in a dynamic, multi‑unit retail environment. Key Responsibilities (High Level) Lead and implement asset protection strategies across assigned locations Investigate internal losses, interview team members, and document findings in accordance with Company policies and procedures. Identify, analyze, and reduce risk to company assets Oversight of third‑party contract security services in assigned locations Partner with Store, District, and Support Center leaders to drive APS goals Analyze financial, operational, and shrink data to support asset protection strategies Coach and develop team members on best practices to prevent loss Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable laws Test and implement new asset protection solutions and technologies Job Responsibilities Apply knowledge of federal, state, and local laws as they relate to the rights of team members and non-employees. Proactively identify and report on potential and actual exposure to loss of Company assets. Develop means to minimize risk, ensure compliance to Company policy and provide guidance to store personnel on detecting and preventing loss. Establish and maintain communication avenues with Store and District Management, the Asset Protection Solutions (APS) department, key Company stakeholders, and outside agencies to ensure that established Asset Protection goals and objectives are being met to minimize loss of profits and achieve comprehensive loss targets. Manage third party contracted guard force to ensure training on and adherence to policy and procedures, including developing and implementing post orders, training, and scheduling. Communicate and coordinate with the Asset Protection Solutions department including the Asset Protection Managers, Operations Loss Prevention, and other APS staff to reduce shrink and minimize risk in our stores and corporate facilities. Maintain regular communications with Pharmacy and Retail Operations, and other Corporate Departments to foster cooperative efforts to prevent or minimize profit loss, to include regular discussions, presentations, training, and reports. Review budget-to-plan and perform financial analysis of asset protection programs across the enterprise in order to recommend and implement cost savings initiatives. Provide guidance and programmatic oversight to other team members, including but not limited to APS team members in the field. Ensure store security objectives are consistently applied based on location needs. Where applicable, develop and mentor staff through onboarding, open communication, training and development opportunities and performance management processes; build and maintain employee morale and motivation; ensure the team is appropriately staffed with required competencies; foster a diverse and inclusive workplace. Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of Pharmacy and Retail Operations policies & procedures, and auditing standards. Maintain awareness of research of developments in the Asset Protection field that relate to job responsibilities. Conduct testing of new solutions and lead cross‑functional teams to ensure implementation is completed and within budgets. Collaborate with accounts payable, store managers and within APS to ensure payments are made to vendors within set time frames. Analyze and distribute area and district specific data to the field. Review data exceptions to support strategy implementation aligned with operational goals and objectives. Support all business units within the geographic territory of responsibility and provide the designated service level agreements established to drive APS consistency and awareness around safety, security, profitability, and resiliency. Manage a robust case load that includes travel, training, meeting attendance, and other incremental support of the organization. Manage day‑to‑day activities of a group of employees. Assign, monitor and review progress and accuracy of work, direct efforts and provide technical guidance on more complex issues. Oversee and initiate the hiring, firing, and performance review processes. Provide management to the team to meet objectives, improve processes and improve stakeholder satisfaction. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results may add to costs and may impact the short‑term goals of the department/company. External Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of loss prevention/asset protection, safety and/or retail operations experience OR High School diploma/GED and at least 4 years of loss prevention/asset protection, safety and/or retail operations experience. At least 1 year of experience analyzing, evaluating, and/or presenting information to support teams. Experience with business, financial and/or data analysis. Basic level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: opening a workbook, inserting a row, selecting font size and style, formatting cells as currency, using copy, paste and save functions, aligning text, selecting cells, renaming a worksheet, inserting a column, selecting a chart style, inserting a worksheet, setting margins, selecting page orientation, using spell check and/or printing worksheets). Basic skill level in Microsoft PowerPoint (for example: inserting, rearranging, hiding and deleting slides, navigating between slides, increasing list level, adding, centering and editing text, changing views, inserting a table or a note, moving objects, printing outline view and/or running a slide show). Basic level skill in Microsoft Word (for example: opening a document, cutting, pasting and aligning text, selecting font type and size, changing margins and column width, sorting, inserting bullets, pictures and dates, using find and replace, undo, spell check, track changes, review pane and/or printing functions). Experience handling confidential information (for example: HIPAA, PCI, Waste, Fraud, and Abuse documentation and records). Experience using time management skills such as prioritizing/organizing and tracking details and meeting strict deadlines of multiple projects with varying completion dates. Willing and able to work a flexible schedule to meet business needs. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree Wicklander‑Zulawski certification and/or LPC / CFI designation Experience operating asset protection systems and security equipment Cross‑functional leadership experience At least 1 year of experience analyzing, evaluating, and/or presenting information to support teams.
