This individual will oversee the firm's full accounting function, including trust (IOLTA) accounting, case cost tracking, financial reporting, and internal controls, while partnering closely with firm leadership to support strategic decision-making.Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger managementManage and reconcile attorney trust (IOLTA) accounts in compliance with state bar and legal trust accounting requirementsPrepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for firm leadershipDevelop and monitor firm-wide budgets, cash flow projections, and financial forecastsSupervise, train, and mentor accounting and bookkeeping staffEnsure compliance with GAAP, firm policies, and applicable state and federal regulationsCoordinate with outside auditors, tax preparers, and banking institutionsDesign and maintain internal controls to safeguard firm assets and ensure accurate reportingTrack and reconcile case costs and manage settlement disbursement accounting specific to personal injury litigationAnalyze case and department profitability, providing financial insights to attorneys and partnersIdentify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy across the accounting functionPrepare ad hoc financial reports and analysis as requested by the executive teamRequirements:Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA a plus5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with prior law firm experience strongly preferred (Personal Injury a plus)Strong working knowledge of trust/IOLTA accounting and legal billing practicesProven experience managing a full-cycle accounting function and leading an accounting teamProficiency with legal practice management/accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Filevine, Litify, or similar)Advanced Excel skills, with experience in financial modeling and reportingSolid understanding of GAAP and internal controlsExcellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skillsHigh level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial informationStrong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with attorneys and staffAbility to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced, high-volume law firm environmentWhat We Offer:Flexible SchedulesMedical, Dental, Vision and Pet Insurance401(k) with Company MatchCompany-paid Life Insurance and AD&D Coverage, Voluntary Life InsuranceShort-term and Long-term DisabilityEmployee Assistance and Travel Assistance ProgramsPaid Time Off, Paid Sick Time, Paid HolidaysHealth FSA and Dependent Care FSAAccident InsuranceCell Phone and Internet StipendVoluntary Critical Illness InsuranceRemote PositionsAbout J&M:Jacoby & Meyers was founded in 1972 with the intention of making the legal system more accessible to the average person.
