Position
As Director of Human Resources, you will have the extraordinary opportunity to work with approximately 530 exceptional, gifted young men, talented faculty, and committed staff. Located in New York City, Regis High School is a Catholic, Jesuit, college preparatory school and the only Jesuit, full-scholarship high school in the country. The school was founded in 1914 through the extraordinary generosity of an anonymous woman and her family. Regis now relies on the philanthropy of alumni, parents, and friends as its most significant source of financial support. Position Summary
The Director of Human Resources is responsible for overseeing all of the school’s human resources functions and disciplines including but not limited to the maintenance of human resource records and files, legal, compliance, compensation, benefits administration and reporting, talent acquisition and staffing strategies, performance management, employee compliance and training, 403(b) plan administration and employee relations. The Director of Human Resources reports to the Vice President for Finance and Administration and is a member of the school’s Leadership Team.
Job Responsibilities
Benefits Administration:
- In collaboration with a healthcare insurance broker, manage and coordinate benefit programs – Health, Dental, Commuter benefit, 403(b), STD, LTD, Life/AD&D, and COBRA – for employees, including all employee communication, problem solving, and claims resolution;
- Reconcile invoices for all benefit programs monthly, in coordination with Finance;
- Process all 403(b) enrollments and changes on a semi-monthly basis; submit employee contributions and employer matches to Principal Financial monthly; track and notify employees of eligibility and changes to employer match levels; communicate all changes to Finance;
- Manage annual open enrollment for all plans;
- Communicate plan changes/comparisons during open enrollment periods to assist employees in becoming educated consumers;
- Maintain secure and confidential benefit related files and records;
- Coordinate with Finance on retirement plan audits; Compile census data annually for insurers;
- Ensure compliance with all benefits plans;
- Manage Worker’s Compensation programs;
Employee Relations:
- Maintain/edit/update job descriptions for all employees. Complete periodic job description audit and ensure appropriate classifications under the Fair Labor Standards Act;
- Remain informed of industry best practices, regulatory changes, and employment law; ensure compliance with school policies and federal/state/local laws;
- Maintain secure and confidential employee files;
- Review and revise employee handbook regularly, including a thorough annual review and incremental updates as needed throughout the year;
- Consult administrators/departmental supervisors regarding employee disciplinary problems, resolve personnel issues, and provide mediation when necessary;
- Conduct internal investigations regarding employee relations issues; work with legal counsel on employee disciplinary actions, employee terminations and employee handbook updates;
- Manage employee separation process for both voluntary/involuntary terminations;
Staffing and Personnel Administration:
- Partner with administrators and departmental supervisors to manage all aspects of the recruitment process including advertising opportunities in appropriate venues, receipt, acknowledgement and dissemination of all candidate materials, management of the search process, and maintenance of search documentation; this includes annually onboarding 70+ seasonal individuals to work with the REACH Program in the summer;
- Manage the onboarding and offboarding processes for employees and contractors;
- Execute issuance of offer letters; review faculty and staff employment agreements;
- Lead and execute the HR portions of annual new faculty and staff orientation; execute an abbreviated orientation for mid-year hires;
- Work closely with Finance to execute payroll, salary changes, employee deductions and other finance-related issues as they occur;
- In conjunction with the Vice President for Administration and Finance, manage the compensation program, including the processing of annual compensation changes and benchmarking positions to market as necessary to ensure competitive compensation for all employees.
- Manage the process of annual non-faculty employee performance evaluations;
- Manage budgeting and spending for human resources functions;
School Culture:
- Serve as a strategic advisor to leaders across the school around effective management practices for improved work relationships, morale, performance, and retention;
- Coordinate and chair regular meetings between the Faculty Council leaders and the Administration; maintain an open dialogue with the Faculty Council leaders;
- Collaborate with school leaders to develop and conduct periodic employee engagement and feedback surveys to assess workplace culture, and team/management dynamics; identify issues that require follow-up and present to the school leadership for appropriate action;
- Manage all employee culture-building initiatives including recognition programs, social and teambuilding activities; oversee a program of employee wellness, bringing in external service providers where appropriate;
Training and Compliance:
- Develop and implement a program of student protection training for all employees that is executed on a regular basis throughout the school year;
- Serve as the liaison between Regis and the Safe Environment (SE) Office of the Archdiocese of New York; reconcile semi-annual roster compiled by the SE Office and follow-up as appropriate;
- Maintain up to date background check documentation and student protection training for all employees and contractors;
- Coordinate annual sexual harassment and other required training as mandated by New York State and New York City law, and ensure ongoing compliance;
- Ensure compliance with federal and state laws such as FMLA, ADA, Unlawful Harassment, Worker’s Compensation and ACA;
Additional Duties:
- All other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Administration and Finance.

- A high degree of comfort working with and learning new technologies;
- Eagerness to engage professional development to remain current on legal compliance and best practices.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in HR Management (or related degree/experience); Master’s preferred; experience in an educational setting preferred;
- Minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in Human Resources;
- Professional certification in Human Resources (PHR) required; Senior Certification (SPHR) preferred;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Google Suite; strong spreadsheet skills required;
Status
This is a full-time, 12-month position.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range is $150k - $165k, commensurate with years of experience. Most benefits go into effect immediately. Participation in the 403 (b) begins after one year of employment.
