Position Overview The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek a Gastroenterologist / Hepatologist to join the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. The academic rank track is commensurate with academic record and experience. This role requires dedicated physicians who can manage a variety of responsibilities ranging from direct patient care to educational and research activities within the gastroenterology specialty. Candidates should be committed to improving patient outcomes and advancing the field through continuous learning and quality improvement efforts. Two Distinct Career Pathways – One Exceptional Institution Academic Track: For those passionate about teaching, research, and academic leadership. Base salary starting at $440,000 plus bonuses, with opportunities for scholarly mentorship and advancement. Clinical Track: For those focused on high‑quality patient care. Base salary reaching $590,000 with three years of practice, with productivity incentives and leadership opportunities in clinical operations. Department/Division Overview The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is a preeminent leader in gastroenterology and GI surgery, ranked 45th in the nation according to the U.S. News & World Report “Best Hospitals” rankings for 2023‑2024. Under the leadership of Division Director Georgios Papachristou, MD, PhD, the Division boasts a robust team of 45 clinical and research faculty members, including 13 advanced practice providers. The Division has grown in faculty, facilities, and research capabilities, with over $4.5 million in research funding sourced from national grants and industry activities, including NIH‑funded projects. Our Gastroenterology Fellowship Program annually welcomes six outstanding trainees, providing unparalleled education and mentorship. Duties and Responsibilities Provide exemplary direct patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures with precision and empathy. Engage in mentorship and educational activities, shaping the future of gastroenterology by imparting knowledge to medical students, residents, and fellows. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss complex cases and contribute to comprehensive care plans. Lead and collaborate on clinical and translational research projects, contributing to the advancement of evidence‑based practices in gastroenterology. Commit to ongoing professional development and stay abreast of the latest advancements in the field. Drive quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and optimizing clinical operations. Requirements Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO). Board certification or eligibility from the American Board of Internal Medicine required; active certification from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) required. Completion of an accredited residency in internal medicine and a fellowship training program in gastroenterology or hepatology required.
