Job Description

Location:  Henry Ford Outpatient Surgery Center – Jackson at 1125 E Michigan Ave

Schedule:  Rotating shifts with start times between 5:30a-8am; No weekends or holidays

Contingent, non-benefited

 

GENERAL SUMMARY: Provides clinical leadership in the coordination and delivery of quality, compassionate patient care in the ambulatory surgery setting. Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide, delegate, supervise, and document comprehensive care and patient education. Effectively communicates and collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team and demonstrates consistent clinical competence. May require professional certification as a regulatory requirement in the State of Michigan or as documented by community standards for the position. Works independently and collaboratively with the surgical team and principal investigator.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assess, plan, and implement individualized nursing care for patients undergoing ambulatory surgical procedures, utilizing evidence-based clinical knowledge and best practices
• Perform comprehensive pre-operative and post-operative patient assessments, including vital signs monitoring, medication reconciliation, and patient education
• Prepare and maintain the surgical environment, ensuring compliance with infection control protocols and safety standards
• Assist surgical team members during procedures and respond promptly to patient needs and clinical changes
• Monitor and document patient responses to anesthesia and surgical interventions, reporting any complications or concerns to the surgical team
• Provide clear, compassionate communication with patients and families regarding care plans, procedures, and discharge instructions
• Delegate and supervise nursing tasks appropriately to support staff while maintaining accountability for patient outcomes
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all patient care activities, assessments, and interventions in accordance with HFHS standards and regulatory requirements
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of care and optimal patient safety throughout the surgical experience
• Demonstrate professional competence through ongoing clinical skill development and adherence to professional nursing standards

Qualifications

REQUIRED

QUALIFICATIONS

:

• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Michigan State Board of Nursing
• Current BLS or ACLS certification per HFHS policy
• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
• Successful completion of HFMG Pharmacology assessment
• Clinical knowledge and analytical abilities to develop effective nursing care plans
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members
• Proficiency with computer systems and basic keyboarding skills
• Current professional certification as required by Michigan State Board of Nursing or documented community standards (e.g., ACLS, OCN)

 

PREFERRED

QUALIFICATIONS

:

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
• 1 year of operating room and/or pre- and post-operative nursing experience, OR 3 years of emergency department and/or intensive care unit nursing experience
• Specialty-specific clinical experience
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
