Every fall, our team grows from a few dozen to more than 800 Cox Farmers. We work all year to prepare for our summer “hiring season,” and as you can imagine, this involves tremendous effort and coordination. Like everything on a farm, this role will change with the seasons, but your primary focus will be on managing our online application process and moving folks through the hiring and onboarding process. This will include a lot of boring computer tasks (testing and updating systems, dealing with sensitive information), especially June through August. It will also include more fun engagement and physical work outside, from interview events to orientations for hundreds of new and returning employees, to an action-packed Fall Festival! During the fall season, you’ll be a DOP/Employee Engagement Leader, a familiar face greeting employees in the break room and helping them find their way.

We are officially the Department of People at Cox Farms Virginia. Most of the year, this will be an indoor/office job, but during the fall season, you’ll be outside on your feet, supporting our team of seasonal employees.

Logistics:

  • Start by June 15, paid one-week trial period (minimum 20 hours).
  • Role is full-time/year-round (there is also an option for part-time year-round flexing up to full-time July through November). Our business is season-dependent:
    • December-April: in office 3-4 days per week, typical hours between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
    • May-August: up to 40 hours, some evenings and weekends required starting mid-July.
    • September-mid-November: 6 days per week with overtime, one weekday off, both Saturday and Sunday are required.

Compensation:

  • $18-19/hour, with seasonal overtime opportunities
  • Seasonal bonuses include discretionary end-of-season bonus, plus other bonuses as eligible)

Qualifications :

  • Must be at least 18 years old and legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Must be able to lift 35 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to stand and walk on uneven terrain for the duration of shift.
  • In-person, onsite (Centreville, VA 20120) (no public transportation).
  • Must be fluent (reading, writing, speaking) in English (proficiency in Spanish is a plus).
  • Must be comfortable navigating Windows PCs, typing quickly and accurately.
  • Must be proficient with Google Sheets/Excel and Docs/Word, and comfortable using necessary evils such as AI and various platforms including Applicant Stack, Alchemer, Mailchimp, Signup Genius, and our in-house employee site. (Some experience with spreadsheets and word processing is required, but you do not need to have prior experience with the other specific apps as long as you’re okay diving in and learning as you go!)
  • Must be committed to implementing DEIB initiatives and participating in anti-bias and antiracism training (Also, more generally, you need to be cool with reporting to queer people, being outnumbered by they/thems, working alongside religious minorities, supporting a staff that includes immigrants who don’t speak English, and working for a company that is unapologetically outspoken when it comes to speaking truth to traffic and doing the right thing.)
  • Prior business, admin, and/or HR experience could be great but is not required.

  • Adaptability: Being flexible and open to change, adjusting strategies as needed.

Considerations:

  • This is a farm, and while much of this role will be indoors at a computer in a climate-controlled office, we also do physical work outside, including outdoor hiring events and orientations in the summer heat, being available and (((on your feet))) serving our team for ten hours at a time during the fall, and jumping in during the rush to help park cars or wrap hotdogs as needed.
  • This is not a glamorous job. We are not fancy. If you’re into prestige and brand names and top-of-the-line accessories, keep scrolling. If bottomless cherry tomatoes and occasional strolls to admire newborn goats are more your style, we could be great together. We are a quirky place with quirky spaces and very quirky people.
