Position Overview


Fall River Health Services is seeking an experienced and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) - Acute Care for a 13-week contract assignment in Hot Springs, South Dakota.


The Registered Nurse will provide safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care utilizing the nursing process. The RN will be responsible for patient assessment, care planning, medication administration, treatment implementation, patient education, documentation, and coordination of care with providers and other members of the healthcare team.


This position is ideal for a clinically competent RN who can work effectively in a critical access hospital environment and respond appropriately to changing patient needs, including stressful and emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess patients and develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans.
• Provide direct patient care and administer prescribed medications and treatments.
• Administer fluid and respiratory therapy treatments as ordered.
• Monitor, document, and communicate changes in patient condition to providers and appropriate healthcare team members.
• Recognize symptoms and initiate appropriate interventions for adverse or emergency situations.
• Provide patient and family education regarding medications, treatments, disease processes, and discharge needs.
• Maintain accurate and timely nursing documentation.
• Utilize clinical equipment and perform technical skills appropriate to the assigned area.
• Follow established infection control, safety, nursing, and facility policies and procedures.
• Prioritize and organize patient care effectively throughout the shift.
• Coordinate shift activities to promote continuity and quality of nursing services.
• Provide leadership and support to assigned staff as appropriate.
• Assist with orientation and ongoing education of new staff members.
• Maintain professional competence through continuing education and application of current clinical knowledge.
• Assume charge nurse responsibilities when assigned.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and positive interpersonal relationships.
• Promote quality improvement while supporting efficient use of resources.
• Perform additional duties as assigned based on facility needs.

Required Qualifications

• Current, active Registered Nurse license in the State of South Dakota .
• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience .
• Current CPR certification .
• Ability to obtain ACLS and PALS certifications within 6 months of hire .
• TNCC certification required within 6 months of hire for solo Emergency Room coverage.
• Strong clinical judgment and ability to respond effectively in emergency and high-stress situations.
• Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work varied 12-hour shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and holidays.
