Job Title Food and Drug Investigator Position Details Job Code: JC-525448 Position #s: 580-613-8610-006 Classification: Investigator Salary Range A: $6,339.00 - $8,558.00 Salary Range B: $7,306.00 - $10,609.00 Starting Salary: $6,974.00 under Pay Scales Section 5 # of Positions: 1 Work Location: United States Telework: Hybrid Job Type: Permanent, Full Time Final Filing Date: 8/3/2026 Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025: 2% monthly base pay reduction for 3.5 hours of leave credits through June 2027 Responsibilities Conduct thorough and complex investigations Initiate enforcement actions to safeguard public health Deliver educational outreach Collaborate within a team environment for planning, evaluation, and quality improvement Maintain technical expertise in food and drug regulations Work cooperatively with industry partners and government agencies Train and lead staff in field investigations as career advancement occurs Qualifications and Requirements Peace officer designation under California Penal Code 830.3 (f) and (h) Must comply with California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (CA POST) Required to carry a firearm and be proficient in its use; knowledge of use of force and applicable policy Must work under the general direction of the Supervising Food and Drug Investigator of the Food and Drug Branch (FDB), Drug and Medical Device Compliance and Enforcement Section, Investigations and Technical Support Unit New to California State Service candidates must be able to take and pass the Examination for this classification (Class 3976) Current state employees without transfer or list eligibility must also take and pass the Examination for this classification Ability to work across office locations in Orange, Los Angeles, and San Diego (headquarters in the county nearest residence) Additional Information CDPH is an E‑Verify Employer.
