Robert Half is partnering with a growing construction company in the Manhattan Beach/Hermosa Beach area seeking an experienced Senior Project Accountant to support the financial management of multiple construction projects. This is a 100% in-office position and an excellent opportunity for a construction accounting professional looking to grow into a leadership role over time.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience working for a construction company, strong project-based accounting knowledge, and a solid understanding of WIP reporting, job costing, subcontractor billing, and project financials. This person will work closely with project managers and leadership to provide accurate, timely financial information and help strengthen accounting processes as the company continues to grow.

Responsibilities:

• Manage project accounting from initial setup through final project closeout.
• Prepare and maintain accurate WIP schedules and construction project financial reports.
• Track project costs by phase and cost code and compare actual costs to budgets.
• Manage job costing, subcontractor billing, invoices, draws, and project-related accounting.
• Maintain accurate financial information in Sage and QuickBooks and reconcile data between systems.
• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and support month-end close.
• Monitor project profitability, costs, commitments, and variances.
• Partner with project managers to resolve discrepancies and provide clear cost information.
• Help improve accounting processes, controls, reporting, and project workflows.
• Support leadership with financial analysis and project-level reporting.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of accounting experience within the construction industry required.
• Strong hands-on experience with construction project accounting.
• Must have solid WIP reporting and job costing experience.
• Experience with Sage and QuickBooks strongly preferred.
• Understanding of construction contracts, subcontractors, draws, project costs, and billing.
• Strong Excel and financial reporting skills.
• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Must be willing to work 100% onsite in the Manhattan Beach/Hermosa Beach area.

• Demonstrated experience in construction accounting, preferably supporting multi-family or similar project-based environments.
• Strong working knowledge of Sage and QuickBooks, with the ability to manage accounting activity across both platforms.
• Proficiency in month-end close, general ledger maintenance, and preparation of journal entries.
• Hands-on experience with account reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and financial record review.
• Solid understanding of job costing, construction budgets, cost codes, and work-in-progress reporting.
• Ability to identify process gaps, improve accounting workflows, and maintain effective internal controls.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to communicate financial findings clearly to operational teams.
