Accounting Assistant II -Utility Billing

Responsibilities Maintains and updates utility billing database; enters service calls and processes account transactions related to customers moving in or out of homes and residences; processes service orders. Prepares data file to process utility billings; researches problems; receives, processes, and posts payments and issues receipts; handles and balances cash and credit card payments; processes accounts for collections and reconciles reports. Assists in providing excellent customer service via telephone, email, and/or counter support to the public and staff; responds to inquiries by explaining procedures, providing general information, distributing forms and documents, referring callers or visitors to appropriate departments, relaying accurate messages, and transferring calls to voicemail when necessary. Receives cash, makes change, issues receipts, and balances cash to appropriate accounts. Provides backup support to the Business Licensing team, answering inquiries and offering clear guidance to effectively support business needs. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience in processing accounting documents, maintaining accounting records, and/or billing and collections. Demonstrated professional written and verbal communication skills through direct customer interactions via phone, email, and in person. Detail‑oriented and highly organized with strong ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. Proven ability to work effectively in fast‑paced, high‑volume settings. Preferred Skills Government or utility billing experience. Additional Information Union Representation: SEIU. Schedule: Monday‑Thursday 7:30 a.m.–6:00 p.m. (This position is not remote‑work eligible).
