Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies Lecturer Pool

The Program of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, housed in the Department of Sociology and Interdisciplinary Social Sciences (SISS) at San Jose State University invites highly qualified and motivated applicants for part‑time teaching appointments. The SISS Department welcomes all forms of diversity and invites applications from candidates who can demonstrate excellence in teaching and working with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds. This position is continuously open; appointments are filled as needed based on student enrollment and funding. Responsibilities Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a diverse student population—including age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation—through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement. Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS). Deliver undergraduate courses in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, with current needs focused on WGSS 101: Sex, Power, and Politics. Prepare for class, evaluate student performance, prepare and revise syllabi, hold weekly office hours, review current literature and research in the subject area, and regularly assess course and program learning outcomes for pedagogical improvements. Qualifications A Master’s degree or higher in the field relevant to the curriculum or a related discipline to teach lower‑division courses. Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population, as gained through cross‑cultural study, training, teaching, or comparable experience. Preferred Qualifications A Ph.D. in the field relevant to the curriculum or a related discipline to teach lower‑division courses. Compensation Compensation is determined by qualifications and experience. Anticipated starting salary (monthly rate for full‑time equivalent) is: L-A / Range 2 – $5,507 – $5,959 L-B / Range 3 – $6,221 – $7,481 L-C / Range 4 – $6,825 – $9,431 L-D / Range 5 – $8,593 – $10,347 Part‑time rates are prorated; rates correspond to full‑time equivalents.
