SUMMARY: The Vice President of Safety and Security position will provide enterprise-wide leadership for identifying, assessing, and reducing safety, security, and operational risks across all Minnesota Vikings and MV Ventures operations. This executive role is accountable for developing and integrating strategies that support physical security, NFL compliance, crisis management, business continuity, investigations, fan conduct oversight, and organizational preparedness.
This role ensures that safety and security practices align with the organization’s mission and values while protecting people, assets, operations, and brand reputation. The Vice President serves as a trusted advisor during complex, high-impact situations, and partners closely with People & Culture (Human Resources), Legal, Facilities Operations, Football Operations, Information Technology, Communications, Stadium Operations, Finance, and external agencies to enable a resilient, inclusive, and well-prepared organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Enterprise Safety & Security Leadership
- Provide executive leadership and governance for security operations across the TCO Performance Center, TCO Stadium, Viking Lakes Campus, and serve as the primary security liaison for U.S. Bank Stadium.
- Act as the central point of accountability for safety and security matters impacting team operations, facilities, employees, players, contractors, and MV Ventures.
- Deliver clear, timely risk assessments and strategic recommendations to Ownership and senior leadership.
- Provide regular, transparent updates on safety and security readiness, risks, and mitigation strategies to leadership and stakeholders.
- Advise on safety and security considerations related to affiliated ownership entities and external business interests.
- Ensure sustained compliance with NFL security policies, best practices, audits, and regulatory requirements.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with NFL Security, law enforcement, emergency management agencies, and private-sector partners.
- Oversee access control strategies and secure environments across team-controlled facilities.
- Lead planning for major events, team travel, executive protection, and large-scale gatherings.
- Guide the selection, performance, and accountability of third-party security partners and vendors.
- Evaluate, implement, and maintain security technologies and infrastructure in alignment with organizational needs and risk posture.
- Align safety and security initiatives with football operations, business objectives, and inclusive workplace practices.
Incident Management, Crisis Response & Emergency Preparedness
- Design, maintain, and continuously improve enterprise business continuity and crisis response frameworks in partnership with executive leadership.
- Lead organization-wide training, drills, simulations, and tabletop exercises to enhance preparedness and response capabilities.
- Ensure readiness for incidents including severe weather, facility disruptions, cyber threats, personnel safety events, and operational interruptions.
- Serve as the Executive Incident Commander during crises, providing calm, inclusive, and decisive leadership at Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center and Viking Lakes.
- Activate and lead the Crisis Management Team, coordinating across departments and external agencies.
- Partner closely with People & Culture, Legal, Communications, and Operations to address employee well-being, workplace safety, and sensitive personnel matters during incidents.
- Provide real-time situational awareness, risk evaluation, and decision support to executive leadership.
- Ensure crisis response actions align with legal requirements, labor considerations, NFL standards, and ethical principles.
- Integrate internal and external communications with Communications and HR partners to ensure accuracy, transparency, and care for affected individuals.
- Represent the organization with regulators, law enforcement, and league partners during significant events.
- Lead post-incident recovery planning, including organizational learning, employee support resources, and continuous improvement.
- Deliver after-action reports and ensure corrective measures are implemented effectively and equitably across the organization.
Enterprise Risk, Investigations & Governance
- Establish and lead an organization-wide security and risk governance structure to support strategy, reporting, and accountability.
- Identify and assess emerging physical, operational, reputational, cyber, financial, and regulatory risks.
- Collaborate with IT and Business Analytics leaders to address data protection, cybersecurity risk, and digital operations resilience.
- Partner with Network and Security leadership to support NFL cybersecurity programs and incident response protocols.
- Integrate security and risk considerations into football operations, business initiatives, stadium operations, and events.
- Serve as an executive partner to Legal and People & Culture on investigations, workplace concerns, evidence handling, and compliance matters.
- Oversee complex or cross-functional internal investigations with professionalism, confidentiality, and fairness.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Senior-level leadership experience (10+ years) in security, emergency management, investigations, or risk-related fields.
- Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale safety, security, or risk management functions in complex, high-visibility organizations.
- Proven skill in crisis leadership, including decision-making under pressure and coordination across diverse teams.
- Experience developing and operating enterprise risk management, business continuity, and emergency response programs.
- Strong ability to partner with Human Resources/People & Culture on employee safety, workplace issues, and organizational well-being.
- Knowledge of legal, regulatory, and compliance environments related to safety, security, and labor considerations.
- Experience working with professional sports, large venues, major events, or similar dynamic environments is beneficial.
- Advanced communication skills, with the ability to engage executive leaders, employees, external partners, and governing bodies.
- A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, professional training, and significant relevant leadership experience. Advanced or professional education (e.g., MBA, JD, Psychology, or related fields) is valued but not required.
