Secretary (OA)

Summary The Secretary (OA) is located in the Dental Service of the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, SC. The incumbent serves as a primary administrative support, performing a wide variety of clerical and office duties. Learn more about this agency Duties Help Duties include but are not limited to:
- Receives incoming calls from patients, clients, staff, and others in need of information.
- Processes incoming and outgoing materials, including correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other written communications.
- Edits letters, composes letters and reports, reviews correspondence for accuracy and completeness, establishes and monitors suspense dates, prepares public presentation outlines, and develops standard or form letters.
- Schedules meetings and maintains a calendar of appointments.
- Performs office automation work on a personal computer using multiple programs to complete documentation.
- Utilizes a range of software applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) to prepare correspondence.
- Maintains office supplies and equipment.
- Prepares travel arrangements for staff.
- Ensures office compliance with regulations, policies, and guidelines.
- Provides training and/or coaching to subordinate clerical staff.

- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959

- Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP)

- whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service.
- GS-07 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade, GS-06, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: applying knowledge of program goals to perform non-routine assignments; coordinating and handing administrative functions; locating and summarizing information in files; completing letters, forms and other documents; noting and following up on commitments made during meetings; and shifting subordinates to ensure workload coverage. NOTE: Must type 40 words per minute.
