Location: Hybrid | Field-Based with Northern California Travel Our client, a growing utility submetering and billing solutions company, is seeking a Business Development Manager to join their Sales team within an assigned expansion territory. This is a relationship-driven, consultative sales role focused on driving growth through strategic partnerships with developers, HOAs, property managers, municipal utility districts, and property owners. Compensation: $75,000 - $90,000, based on experience Benefits information: 401k + 6% Matching, Stock Options, Health Insurance, Flex Paid Time Off Other Benefits: Car and Phone Allowance A Day in the Life of the Business Development Manager In this role, you’ll take ownership of an assigned territory and drive business growth through proactive prospecting, networking, and relationship management. You’ll work closely with developers, property managers, HOAs, and other decision-makers to identify utility submetering and billing solutions that align with their operational and financial goals. This position plays a key role in expanding the company’s market presence while collaborating cross-functionally to ensure a seamless customer experience from proposal through implementation. Responsibilities include: Develop and grow an assigned sales territory through outbound prospecting, networking, referrals, and market research Build and maintain relationships with developers, property managers, HOAs, municipal utility districts, and property owners Identify client needs and recommend customized utility submetering and billing solutions Manage the full sales cycle, including outreach, presentations, proposals, contract negotiations, and closing Conduct in-person and virtual meetings, presentations, and site visits with prospective clients Maintain accurate sales activity, forecasting, and pipeline management within Salesforce CRM Provide weekly pipeline updates and monthly sales forecasts to leadership Collaborate with internal departments including field services, accounting, purchasing, onboarding, and leadership teams Monitor local market trends, industry developments, and competitor activity Represent the company at trade shows, networking functions, and industry association events Prepare specification compliance matrices and ensure proposal and order compliance standards are maintained Support the Vice President of Sales with additional duties and strategic initiatives as needed Requirements and Qualifications: 3+ years of B2B sales experience & consultative approach Strong experience hitting and exceeding quota Experience keeping deal moving when sales cycle stretches 3-6 months Experience working with senior-level decision-makers Strong relationship-building and interpersonal communication skills Excellent verbal and written communication abilities Self-starter with strong initiative and accountability Proficiency with CRM platforms, preferably Salesforce Ability to travel throughout the assigned territory and attend occasional out-of-area events or meetings About the Hiring Company: Our client is an established provider of utility submetering and utility billing solutions serving multifamily, HOA, and commercial property markets.
