An Occupational Therapist (OT) working in home health provides specialized care to patients in their own homes. Their role is crucial in helping patients improve their ability to perform daily activities and enhance their quality of life. This is a startup home healthcare company in the Coeur d'Alene region led by Douglas Holcomb. 

Job Title: 

Home Health Occupational Therapist

Hours:

10-20 hours per week

Job Summary:

The Home Health Occupational Therapist evaluates, plans, and implements individualized therapy programs for patients in their homes. The goal is to enhance the patient’s functional abilities, promote independence, and ensure a safe living environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assessment and Evaluation :

  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients' physical, emotional, and social needs.
  • Identify functional deficits and strengths, and evaluate the home environment for safety and accessibility.

• Treatment Planning :

  • Develop personalized treatment plans based on assessment results, patient goals, and physician recommendations.
  • Set realistic and achievable short- and long-term goals.

• Implementation of Therapy :

  • Provide direct therapy to patients to improve motor skills, cognitive function, and ability to perform daily activities.
  • Teach and train patients and caregivers on adaptive techniques and the use of assistive devices.

• Home Modifications and Safety :

  • Recommend and implement modifications to the home to ensure a safe and supportive environment.
  • Advise on the acquisition and use of adaptive equipment and technology.

• Patient and Caregiver Education :

  • Educate patients and their families on treatment plans, techniques, and strategies to enhance daily living skills.
  • Provide support and counseling to address emotional and psychological aspects of recovery.

• Documentation and Reporting :

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Communicate effectively with the healthcare team, including physicians, nurses, and other therapists, to coordinate care.

• Quality Improvement and Compliance :

  • Stay updated with the latest practices and standards in occupational therapy.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as agency policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

• Education :

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.

• Licensure :

  • Current state license to practice as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).

• Experience :

  • Previous experience in home health care or a similar setting is preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations, including the elderly and those with chronic illnesses or disabilities.

• Skills :

  • Strong clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a flexible schedule.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems.

• Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to travel to patients' homes and provide hands-on care.
  • Physical stamina to perform job duties, including lifting and transferring patients.

• Travel is required, and the therapist must have reliable transportation.
• The therapist must adhere to safety protocols and infection control measures.
