Senior AccountantThe Senior Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the financial integrity and mission of Scouting Colorado. The Senior Accountant acts as a technical resource and mentor to Accounting Assistants, helping to promote best practices, professional development, and operational excellence. This role works closely with the Accounting Manager and organizational leadership to ensure effective financial stewardship of resources supporting youth development programs.This role performs advanced accounting activities, ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), nonprofit accounting standards, grant and donor restrictions, and assists with financial reporting, budgeting, audits, and internal controls. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, overseeing fund and grant accounting activities, supporting payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable operations, and providing financial analysis and research to support organizational decision-making.Key Responsibilities:Financial Reporting and AnalysisFund Accounting and Grant ManagementProgram, Camp, and Event AccountingPayroll, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable OversightLeadership and CollaborationQualificationsEducationBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. CPA or CPA candidate preferred.ExperienceMinimum of 4-5 years of progressive accounting experience. Nonprofit accounting experience highly preferred. Experience with fund accounting, grants management, donor restrictions, and financial reporting. Experience supporting annual audits and Form 990 preparation. Demonstrated experience with payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable operations. Experience providing technical leadership, mentoring, training, or guidance to accounting staff. Experience in public accounting or internal audit preferred.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesStrong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles, including donor-restricted funds, grant compliance, and unrelated business income concepts. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup functions, data analysis, and complex reconciliations. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Suite and proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications. Excellent attention to detail, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Strong written and verbal communication abilities, including explaining financial information to non-financial stakeholders. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and consistently meet deadlines. Excellent relationship-building and "soft" skills. Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, integrity, and ability to gain the trust and confidence of staff, management, volunteers, board members and trustees. Demonstrated history of discretion and understanding of the importance of maintaining confidentiality.
