Salary Information: $31,524 annual (Step 17)

Monthly Type: 11-month

Full Time/Part Time: Part Time - Full Time Equivalency: 50%

Funding: Federal

Renewal dependent on performance, departmental needs and/or funding availability.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Conduct literature reviews relevant to the research projects.
2. Collect, process, integrate, and analyze big data.
3. Set up and operate data collection sensors.
4. Assist in developing databases, data processing pipelines, and online visualization tools.
5. Assist in preparing technical reports, journal manuscripts, conference papers, and research presentations.
6. Participate in project meetings.
7. Communicate and coordinate with project partners and stakeholders.
8. Perform other research-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Currently enrolled (or admitted) as a graduate student at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa.
2. Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Geography, Statistics, or a related field.
3. Familiarity with big data analytics, databases, and computer programming (such as Python, R, SQL, ArcGIS/QGIS).
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
5. Ability to prepare technical reports and research manuscripts.
6. Ability to organize tasks and work independently as well as collaboratively.

Desirable Qualifications

1. Experience with data collection and sensors.
2. Experience with trail management.
3. Experience with scientific writing and conference or journal publications.
4. Valid driver's license.
5. Master's degree in a related field
